jaguar s-type lost keys
Discussion
hi i wonder if any on could help me as i have just got an abandoned s-type transferred in to my name and don't have the keys its a 2007 plate diesel and was wondering if it is easy to change the ignition barrel and locks with secondhand ones or cheaper just to get a new key cut and programmed to it
New key will be cheeper the a second hand Keys lock's engine ECU and likely body computer if like other brands where immobiliser code is stored on both and needs to match
O my problem is if someone with the old keys find the car they cAn get entry But not start the car if the old key is removed from the ecu

I think you'll find that an S-Type of that era needs to have at least one working key (i.e. with the correct fob and transponder) in order to make any new keys work.
I bought my 2007 S-Type and promptly mislaid the only key which came with it, and had a bit of a panic when I phoned the dealer for advice. No keys = new control unit + ignition receiver, about £1200 IIRC...
When the key was found, I was quick off the mark to get another cut and programmed by a local auto-electrician!

Officially maybe. But many cars can have the immobiliser code read from the ECU without any sort of KeyeI bought my 2007 S-Type and promptly mislaid the only key which came with it, and had a bit of a panic when I phoned the dealer for advice. Hence why many can be easy to steal
Not being an auto locksmith I can't comment on if it's possible
2 keys ( transponders fitted ) will be required.
The keys unlock the electronic steering column, programmed to the instrument pack.
2 remotes required, programmed to the drivers door module.
Contact Jaguar, see if they have a record of your key number.
Numbered 1-4 like a Ford. No cut, 1/3 cut 2/3 cut, full cut.
You will need Jaguar type software to program the keys, so find someone that can do that first.
I would probably say cheapest way is second hand lock set. Ignition, drivers door and boot.
Youre looking about 3-4 hours labour to do the whole job.
Good luck.
Happy to attempt to answer any further questions.
