A mate of mine has a new Deepsea Sea-Dweller but is getting pricy quotes for insurance. Any recommendations?

Mine is on my house insurance. Current value £17k (the watch, not the house!). Added a few quid to the premium, and needed a proper valuation that’s valid for three years.

Cheers but his home insurers want it in a safe bolted to the floor plus an extra £500/yr on the policy...!

Well, whenever there’s nobody in the house, mine is on my wrist, so a burglary is unlikely to net my watch. It’s fully insured outside the house against theft, and my whole home and contents is under £400. Someone needs to get onto the Meerkat...

That's a joke. He needs a new home contents policy with a decent insurer - Hiscox or NFU Mutual

Does the OP’s mate live in a dodgy postcode?

All a safe does is make a mess and cause lots of damage as the scum cut, batter and smash the hell out of the house to get it. And they will.

My DSSD is on my house policy, costs about £40 a year extra. Several insurers and never been a problem.

We're with Hiscox and they are insisting that we install another safe before renewal next year. The alternative is a significant premium increase.

Presumably that’s for quite a collection of valuables though, not a single watch?
I was with them for many years - switched to NFU when they wanted me to install a higher cash value safe.
