Roads near Winchester

Hello everyone! Recently moved to just outside of Winchester and I’m finding it a real struggle to find some good roads for a spirited drive, everywhere seems to lead to bloody motorways! I’ve moved down from Aberdeenshire where I was absolutely spoiled for choice. I’ve tried Cheddar Gorge, but it’s far to busy to do anything fun, so does anyone have any suggestions on some roads that might be worth a shot? Attached is a picture of my M235i.

No, it's hopeless. Take the M4, turn right after the bridge.

There’s some great roads in the South Downs and you can swing by Goodwood for food as well.

Take the A30 to Basingstoke, not a challenging road to drive, but it will be empty so progress can be made. When i lived out that way I always used it instead of the M3. But then again I remember the road before they built the M3.

The candovers. Basically lots of the small roads inside the Winchester, Basingstoke, Alton triangle.

From Winchester, head east along the A272 or head west towards Stockbridge. There's lots of great roads, villages etc in the area.

Have you considered a track day? Thruxton is just up the road.

Just south of Winchester, take the Morestead road to Corhampton. You will likely want to do this one more than once.

A32 up to West Meon Hut, then A272 to Petersfield. There's even a short tunnel.

B2146 to South Harting, then B2141 up Harting hill and onwards to Lavant. Along the side of the circuit, then into Goodwood for coffee and bacon roll.

B2178 then B2146 through Funtington and back to Harting, then same as the outward route back to Winchester.

Just writing this is making me want to go out and do it ...

Exactly this! I live on this route, they're the best roads I've been able to find in the area

I'd also add the road North out of Petersfield through Ashford Hangars. It's short, but rare to find a proper two lane road that's tight and twisty in this country

You also have the added benefit of the toilet humour chuckle as you pass the sign that says S.Harting. Makes me laugh every single time.

This. You can also head for Midhurst from Petersfield, and go through Cowdray Park to Petworth, then from Petworth to Billingshurst through Wisborough Green. There are some excellent roads in this part of the world, although on any sunny Sunday they do tend to be popular with bikers, and consequently Plod lie in wait for them.

I'll see that and raise you Playhatch but you have to go dangerously close to Reading to see that.

Further afield Stoke Edith always makes me chuckle.

Head to Salisbury Plain for nice open roads. Plenty of choice on Best Biking Roads . com
