Discussion
Good morning to all you people trying to avoid the Covid issues, and those that arent fussed.
I am looking to clear down the images I have on my numerous hard drives I have scattered around on various portable HDs and also the variety of folders I have on these HDs.
I am looking to find some software that will organise all of the images I have into one central location. Over the years I have copied and copied again added new etc etc
There are loads on the market, but i'm coming to the PH massive to understand which has the best results?
Thanks in advance

Be very very careful if you try copying them all into a common location, particularly if many of the photos have been taken on a DSLR etc.
Quite often the filenames on these are autoincremented and then roll over at around 9999 eg. DSC_9999.NEF
You may have taken photos many years ago with a given sequence e.g. DSC_3123.NEF and then over the years taken another 10, 20 thousand images, by which point you will have two more files with the same file name but of very different photos. There is a risk that at this point you'll overwrite one with the other.

Thank you all for the suggestions so far. But yes this is one factor I wanted to avoid by using software as it will look at numerous factors other than just the filename. Also I seem to have a load of smaller images from when I had a windows phone of the same photo. Be good to get rid of those where there are duplicates.Quite often the filenames on these are autoincremented and then roll over at around 9999 eg. DSC_9999.NEF

If you're using an older Mac or PC then potentially you could still run Google Picasa on your HD. Picasa no longer runs on the newer operating systems which is frustrating as hell because it would be perfect for you.
Thank you...but Im a windows 10 user so probably not a plan. But thank you for the suggestionJontyR said:

Advanced Renamer is something you could look at, if you wanted to avoid filenaming collisions.
