Gym membership and attendance
Discussion
Getting to the gym has bee an essential part of my schedule for the last few years. However, I'm planning to give it a miss for a while. perhaps spend more time riding my bike.
I've always known and accepted that it is a prime area for virus transmission. The benefits far outweighing the negatives for me. However, in light of Covid -19, I'm seriously reassessing.
What are other regular gym goers doing?

I put it in another thread but my plan was to keep going while it was open.
Then they emailed me on Saturday night to say it will be closed until April 5th (I expect it will be much longer).
As you say, an essential part of my day to day activity.
I’m going to run and cycle and do a home routine.
I will need to buy some basic equipment - pull up bar, dumbbells, ab wheel and parallel bars should be fine.

I've only been going to the gym for a year but it's also now firmly a part of my routine (I go every morning Mon-Fri as well as Tues & Thurs evenings and Saturday for a PT session). When I first started I got ill several times which wasn't unexpected but touch wood I've been fine for about the last 7-8 months.
In light of all the CV stuff it did give me pause this morning but I went in armed with 75% alcohol hand sanitiser which I used before and after touching the kit (cardio morning so only rower and bike) but tomorrow is legs in the morning and upper in the evening so a lot more switching between kit.
I don't have room to work out at home but the weather seems to have turned gloriously sunny here today which bodes well so perhaps chucking more cycling in and restricting the gym time might be in order.
The other part of me thinks that if I get ill, I get ill - so may as well just carry on as I normally would with the sensible precautions I'm already taking.

Yoga studio that I visit daily (as well as pretty much every one in the city that I know of) went from normal, to reduced max class size with no props (blocks/blankets/rental mats), to closed until further notice within the space of three days.
Lots are offering a handful of online classes only now, which is not what I pay a monthly membership for - there are plenty of free resources for that if I wanted to go that route.
It is as essential for my mental health as physical health, and lots of walking won't be enough, so sort of at a loss right now.

I’ve been going 2 or 3 times a week since the start of December but haven’t been for over a week now because I think it’s getting a bit risky. I’m planning to brave the cold and go running instead, not as good as the variety I’ve been getting at the gym but it’ll have to do until it’s dry enough to get my road bike back out.
3 times a week, sanitised hands etc. Lunchtime so quiet.
Stopping. Have to.
However....Ombré’s gonna be still going coz gotta lift init.
They should shut them, as well as pubs etc IMV, you have to legislate to get through to this type as they simply don’t understand, however much it’s explained and advised.

Since it isn't possible for me to give a virus I don't have to people who aren't in the gym, it will make little difference to them if I go.
I am afraid this is not how virus transmission works. Anyone visiting the gym after you can still be infected by you, potentially for days if cleaning is not up to scratch. I tend to go 5 times a week, a normal part of my routine. However I have stopped for the foreseeable future, I bought a mat and a load of bands and will concentrate on calisthenics/running at home for a while.

Ours has put buckets of hand sanitiser and Anti-bac wipes around, and a lot more people seem to be using them.
ETA not literally buckets I hasten to add
Same here, staff employed to clean machines, benches etc every hour. It's the first time I've seen the gym staff here actually do something.ETA not literally buckets I hasten to add

You're right, many far more intelligent people than yourself obviously haven't considered that perspective, or the potential long term effects on society when complete lockdown's in place. Apply to join the C19 thinktank now! Stopping. Have to.

I've cancelled my PT sessions and will probably suspend my membership. It's a large and busy gym and I generally enjoy the group energy of exercising with other people around.
I feel sorry for the gym floor staff, PTs etc. They may lose their jobs and will certainly see a major drop in income. No real sympathy for the large commercial group that runs the gym. They have never missed an opportunity to gouge their members in the past.
I better pump up the tyres on the bicycle.

I was there this morning and it was very quiet - oddly it made me feel a little uneasy but I couldn't really explain why. I bumped into my PT and said to him that I think I'm going to swerve it for now, do my part to 'flatten the curve'. As per my earlier post I'll get the bike spruced up as the mornings have been lovely of late and I can use that time to ride. I usually see my PT once a week and given the lack of space at home he's happy to do outdoor sessions in a park for the time being.
I have a cheap Pure Gym membership as it is town centre close to the office so I can go at lunchtimes. However, it is very grubby - they don't have any wipes or sanitiser spray and ask people to bring their own sweaty towels to wipe down equipment!! So I won't be going (well, that and working from home more means I won't be in town anyway). I can't see this ending soon so I may well cancel it.
