Coming into work this morning, a oldish grey volvo with alternating flashing headlights screams up behind me, then ducks onto the hard shoulder 'chased' by two other cars, a black vauxhall people carrier & a green A4.

All the cars have 1 male driver, all are unmarked with only the front one having alternating flashing headlights.

The cars then try pushing other cars out of the way, to make progress, occasionally using the hard shoulder, this was in slow moving heavy traffic.

I very much doubt this was plod, due to the awful driving (i hope it wasnt anyway), so anyone got any ideas what was going on? Could it have been a training session?

Could well be

a Police T-Pac (Tactical Pursuit and Containment) exercise by Plod, or

a genuine attempt to get a robber, or

there again Cherie is going to Malaysia and may have lost the Passport?

Could be several other people. Maybe surveillance drivers. The absence of the lights/sirens is a clue. If genuinely on surveilance use of just the hi/lo flashes is quite common - less showy.

Well if there are no lights or sirens as they are too showy, driving badly, and up the hard shoulder will merely attract more attention to the cars in question!
