So I'm selling my car to Arnold Clark and have a 7 day price guarantee from them (they physically viewed the car yesterday) which runs until Friday. How binding is this guarantee?

I could really do with having the car until Friday but day by day the news regarding Coronavirus gets worse and I'm sure companies like Arnold Clark will be having a rethink on certain areas. If they can easily go back on the deal I'm thinking it might be best to get down there tomorrow and get it sold

How can anyone here know what Arnold Clark might do in this unprecedented situation? Get down there tomorrow.

Can't help with your question I'm afraid but did Arnold Clark give you a decent price, compares to the likes of WBAC anyway?

I was planning to sell when my lease car arrived (if it ever does) and am concerned there will be quite a hit as well.

If they have a 7 day price guarantee, what makes you think a virus will change that?
No doubt the price you have been offered will be on paper not just verbal..

Yes it was a lot better than I was expecting and the inspection process was very easy. Knocked a little off for two wheels being damaged which I was expecting and that was it.

Didn't even bother with WBAC as their online valuation was lower and I've heard they knock the price down massively in person

I recently sold my wife’s Jeep Renegade through Arnold Clark. Their offer was £400 more than WBAC and £600 more that the local Jeep dealer.

Turned up at their MK office, chap working there went out to check mileage, chipped me £20 because the mileage was 400 more than I originally stated, completed paperwork and Job done. Completely painless experience for me.

I recently traded a high mileage 12 plate 1l focus. It had a chunky hole in the back side where I pierced it with a fence post that I was quoted at least £1200 to fix.

Arnold Clark gave me £2650 for it. WBAC offered me £1050.

They offered me a great price for my 2017 GT86 around 3-4 weeks ago, but it fell quite dramatically when I was finally ready to sell late last week (around £800 difference).

They've still quoted the highest price of all other similar services (by some margin), but now the maths don't stack up so I will be keeping it. I've only really heard good things about their "buy my car" service.

That's a remarkable price I think you were very lucky there!

To counter the mostly positive experiences above, mine was a bit less simple.

2017 Ford Focus diesel Titanium on 30k miles, so their bread and butter. Offered me a good price online, much better than the others, but I was aware that the front brakes were starting to suffer so I went in prepared for some chipping away for that.

Things got off to an annoying start when I showed up at the 9am appointment time to be told that the entire team was in a sales meeting that was "finishing shortly". 20 mins later I was finally greeted and told my car would be quickly inspected by the workshop, which didn't happen for another 15 mins. Their website advises approximate 30 min total appointment time, so they were already beyond this.

The workshop report came back with its findings:
1. Front brake discs need replaced, -£200. Fine, fair enough although a bit richer than anticipated.
2. MOT runs out in June, -£54.95. Correct, it does, but your website only asks for 30 days or more. "Yes, but we need to sell the car with more than 6 months MOT so it'll need a new one". Not my problem.
3. It's service is due in 2 months/1500 miles, -£150. Correct again, but your website only asks for a full service history, which it has. "Yes, but we need to sell the car with more than 6 months til next service so it'll need a new one". Again, not my problem.
4. It's due a brake fluid replacement, -£49.95. Incorrect, AC replaced it last year on it's 2 yearly schedule.
5. You said it only has 1 previous owner, but it has 2 - you and the original owner, -£300. So I was correct, it currently has 1 previous owner, when I sell it to you it will then be 2.

In the end, I managed to fight points 2-5 and ended up getting website offer minus £200, but what a farce getting there, and 90 minutes later rather than 30 minutes. The buying manager was not for moving on point 5 but fortunately the lady I was dealing with fought my corner and could see where I was coming from.

(I'm aware that this is my experience only and the overriding opinion is positive, just thought I'd share mine)

You're telling me. I was considering trading it in anyway as the cooling system had failed (Ecoboom strikes again). Luckily it happened in a carpark so I could get it repaired without doing any major damage. Even in good condition I could only get about £3200 for it. So with over a grand worth of damage to it, AC knocked £600 off the price.

Cant complain.

Interesting that this thread has been moved to 'car buying'...

I sold to AC in Jan' and had no issues at all with the price guarantee - I went in 6 days after the quote, I think.

WBAC offered a couple of hundred more IIRC but as the car's model year was slightly before its registration date implied, I thought I'd try AC as I know WBAC are very keen on checking build dates.

So all in all it was fine for me (and they're still trying to sell my car, which according to online valuations has dropped 10% since they bought it.)

Probably the best piece of advice given on PH. Phoned them first thing this morning to arrange an appointment at 5pm.

Sat there sorting it all out and the guy says to me "you're very lucky, we've had a memo today that we are to honour today's appointments and then we're not buying anymore cars until further notice"

So thanks for telling me what i needed to hear to get my arse in to gear
