Eyup guys i bought a mk7 golf not long ago it has over 90,000 on clock. I took it for a drive and the glow plug light came on and car went into limp mode. After switching it off and starting it back up it goes back to normal. It doesen't do this that often i'd say every once in a while unless you floor it. Any idea what it can be. The code i have is oil pressure switch malfunction P164B00. I think that may relate to the problem correct me if I may be wrong. The car does need a service possiby with timing belt/waterpump change aswell as sounds a little rough.

I suspect you may have an oil pressure switch malfunction.

Since it's apparently due for a service, you could ask the person servicing it to deal with that at the same time.

If that boost DTC/error code is over-boost then thats your cause of going into limp , the vanes on the VNT turbo get stuck in position and the turbo creates too much boost low down so goes into limp , very common complaint on modern day diesels

Yeah i have had a similar situation in the past on a petrol car but that had a bad remap on it buddy. But over boost can be a number of things so I have heard and I am wanting to take the easiest route around the problem first and hope it really aint the turbo. What can you suggest guys?

Monitor live/real-time data when fault occurs i.e boost levels actual VS expected , unsticking/freeing sooted up turbo vanes is do-able in situ often, and if over-boosting my money is on this rather than the actuator or other causes
