Losing power somtimes (ill chim)

Have a strange problem with my chim. The engine has just recently started losing power or cutting out. the thing is that it doesnt always do it. sometimes it does it when warm sometimes when cold. if i turn off the ignition the problem goes away but does somtimes comes back. i have had a 250 mile run out and not a sign of it, other times i drive about 20 miles and the problem occours again. Yesterday it had its worst episode where the engine sounded really deep and had no power ticking over at 500 RPM. i cant understand what the problem can be as it is not consistent. have changed all spark plugs cap and leads but problem still there (somtimes) Does anybody have an idea what it could be????? As explained above if i turn the car off and back on again she roars back into life. Any ideas or direction would be really helpfull

I think I have the same problem! I was travelling along the M4 this morning quite happily and suddenly the car lost power and slowly "wound down" and stopped. I did exactly the same thing, started it up again and was fine!

This has happened a couple of times to me now - sometimes not for months then twice in a week!? I bought the bible and looked up how to clean stepper motor but that didnt seem to cure it.

Any other ideas?!

Cleaned stepper motor and i think bingo. Have been out this evening and done all the things that she normally doesnt like which brings on symptoms (Driving low revs high gear ect( and she is purring) even after full revs. will keep you posted if problem returns. have a 120 mile journey tommorrow.

problem solved. car is running as smooth as she ever has. cleaning the stepper motor took about 10 mins and has solved the problem, cant believe that they dont do it on a service, the stepper can really cause havoc with the engine, it realyy should be on the service list !!!!!!!
