So I’ve gone through my options and made a list up of these cars, just wanted people’s opinions on each one and what they prefer etc
BMW 330ci
Seat Leon Cupra
Clio 197
Mk6 fiesta ST
Mini Cooper S
Clio 182
Corsa VXR
Mk5 Golf GTi

golf as the MKV is the best looking golf IMO

Sorry I didn’t say, all of these cars are in my budget, want something that’s fun mainly, but something that isn’t going to cost me a fortune on repairs etc

If no rear passenger space is required, Mini Cooper S from that list.

The Mini Cooper S went from supercharged to a turbo in 2006 (along with front light and body changes) but retained the bonnet scoop anyway. It had more power but used the Peugeot Prince engine instead of the Tritec one, and there have been reported issues. The earlier S/C version sounds epic though, it would be a tough choice!

Or just get the Clio 197 perhaps? The Clio 182 isn't as attractive (in my opinion) but is approaching 'modern classic' status so may not get any cheaper. If you can get a test drive in any, do it. I think you'll find people quite agreeable to test drives, tough time to sell.

I would choose probably the Mini Cooper S, the Supercharged version.

In fairness to the Fiesta Mk6 ST I owned one as a track car for a while and it was good fun and tough as old boots, never let me down at all. but its underpowered compared to others on the list

I yeah I think the best bet is to narrow it down to 3 and give them all proper test drives, for me I think it’s between the two clios and the Mini, will keep this updated when I make a decision

I've only had a couple of the cars on that list, 2000 Leon Cupra and currently a 2005 BMW 330i.

The Cupra was quick in a straight line, but was pretty unruly when you were really on it. Scrabbly torque-steer and inside front wheels bouncing up and down in tighter corners - not for me thanks!

My 330i is way more cohesive, and quicker - I'd remove the 330Ci from your list and replace it with a 130i.
