Hi guys

The misses wants a new car and she likes the 2018 onwards Renault Capture she does not do many miles so the diesel is out

Anyone got experience of the 0.9 or 1.2 petrol engine cars ?

Gutless hateful things, but the 1.2 from 2019 or so onwards was surprising. Just go test drive them and work out which one, if any, she likes. Personally I’m struggling to think of a worse new car on sale, apart from the gutless Kia diesel that I had in Hungary just before Xmas. Shame as I like the U.K. rental spec Ceed and Optima.

I am a Renault fan and I totally agree. As a shed driver I usually love driving any new car no matter how crap it is as it feels like luxury to me. Had a 0.9 tce as a hire car and hated it as soon as I pulled away. If I was on a test drive to buy it I would have just handed the keys back instantly.

Absolutely gutless and I found it impossible to pull away cleanly or change gear smoothly. Struggled to get 40 mpg and on the motorway on the slightest of inclines you had to have your foot to the floor just to maintain the same speed.

Don't these default to ECO mode?

I have driven a 0.9 tce and thought it was quite nippy, especially buzzing around locally (ECO mode off).

My wife had a 1.5dci. It was slow with the eco on, but fine with it off. She only drove it around town and we never had any DPF issues surprisingly. I quite liked it tbh!

My wife recently bought a 1.2, and claims she loves it. I don't usually drive modern vehicles - my youngest is 2003, oldest 1985. It's fine, as far as I can tell, but I'm not comparing it with any of its competition.

Edited now she's out of bed. Fiesta 100 was a bit gutless and she didn't like the stuck on infotainment screen. Corsa was just a bit st all round, apparently. For unknown reasons, she won't consider VAG products. I thought an Ibiza of some sort would have done, but I was unequivocally wrong. I'm sure she considered and test drove something else, but I can't remember what it was, and I'm not asking her any more questions until later today.

We hired one in Grand Canaria last year , not sure of engine size , but going on performance not that big .
The one we had was auto to make driving up into the hills easier by not grabbing the window winder every time I tried to change gear .

Good : comfortable, quiet, economical ,handled well, AC good but temperamental with a mind of its own , nice big info screen ,although stuck in German language mode which I could not figure how to change to English , thank heavens for Waze and Google maps

Bad : gutless , worst auto I have EVER driven whether left to its own devices or using manual mode , the box was very slow to respond to speed/throttle inputs in auto mode , and in manual mode took seconds , and I mean seconds to respond to selector inputs .then in either mode it would be with a lurch , not the easiest drive !
Coupled with this, with spirited driving in the hills or stop/start , the box kept going into limp mode , and this is on a car “out of the box “ sub 1k KM

I would be interested on the type of auto used , never could find an answer

My missus hankered after a Renault Captur.
I persuaded her instead to consider the Suzuki Vitara, which she bought and loves.
