Do you have a stable and relatively fast internet connection? And at the very least WiFi where you’ll be taking payments? Both will be needed.

I used PayPal Here for a few years, work great. Fees were reasonable.

Mostly used at exhibitions.

We now use Shopify POS with ShopPay.

Food vans at work use SumUp I think.

They all seem to be pretty much the same so you can’t go too far wrong.

I've used iZettle since last summer and cannot fault it.

No monthly subscription (they charge per transaction) makes it ideal for folks like me who are not heavy users.

Simple and effective app for your phone, along with a decent web interface for reports, receipts etc.

Definitely worth a look, IMO.

Hmm, our small office has basic wifi, internet speed is about 6mbs download or so. Not brilliant but ok for normal stuff.

Wife uses iZettle and seems pretty good. Nice reader and app thats is decent. I think the rates were pretty good too.

IIRC is can work over 3/4G too with your phone so thats handy

The iZettle reader can connect via Bluetooth on a 3G / 4G smartphone or tablet - no need for any WiFi or [landline] broadband connection.

Makes it possible to accept (and validate) payments anywhere.

So WiFi for where you are, and 3G/4G for when you're out and about.

6MB is more than adequate for iZettle.

If you want I can recommend you to izettle and we both get a £10 gift card of free transactions.

Another vote for iZettle. We've used it for 5-6 years, mostly over 4g, and never felt the need to move elsewhere. The rates and terms seem to be competitive.

Worth checking the rates against the value you expect to use the machine for, as some offer a tiered rate depending on how much you use it.

OP, depends entirely on your take through the card machine (I'm in the industry). For ease of set up and just 'getting started' any of iZettle/SumUp or Square are good starter kits with limited liability in terms of ongoing line rental for the machine.

Once you broach roughly £2k per month in card takings, it usually works out better to go with a company that charges for the machine, but will invariably offer you much lower rates on the actual card processing eg; 1.7% versus a 0.4%.

Feel free to message if you want any help, or a steer in the right direction. Cheers and good luck
