£6k, ultra-reliable, not diesel, not ruinous, not too slow..
Discussion
..and not a motorbike
for £6k
need something with bullet proof reliability, by far the most important point if im gonna be honest
not older than 15 years
petrol or hybrid
ideally achieves at least 25mpg in town driving
that isn't slow, but to be realistic considering all the above, i'll settle for anything that hits 0-60 in under 10s lol..
ideally 4-5 seats + doors but 2 in either case isn't the end of the world
not bothered if its manual or auto

If you fancied something RWD you might want to consider an early (05/06) E9* BMW 330i, or an E87 130i.
Way quicker to 60 than 10 seconds, but I'm not sure about 25mpg in city use.
I get well over 30mpg in my 330i, but that's with no commute, living in the suburbs and driving out of rush hours whenever possible!

Ultra reliable? They are well off that definition in my experience. Also not ruinous? You could easily drop 20% of the purchase price on repairs and not be in any better a position.

But then a water pump is a consumable on any car. I remember fitting a new one many years ago to a Capri that had done about 40,000 miles!
It's just a shame the electric ones fitted to E9* BMWs cost around £250.
But you'd probably never need to fit another, which seems like a better position to me.

I had similar requirements to you last year including no diesel. I ended up with an E92 335d and its absolutely brilliant... Why no diesel?
Maybe the OP doesn't do enough miles for a diesel to make economic sense? IS250 seems like a good car, but £570 a year road tax!
