What's happened to the tens of thousands of people who have recovered from Corona? Are they allowed out to enjoy themselves and help others? Or are they still subject to movement restrictions? Cant help thinking that there must be some people out there who have had it and are now healthy? Especially in China, Italy etc?

That isn't bad news and thus won't sell papers. The levels of hysteria here are off the scale. Why didn't we have the same for bird flu, swine flu, MARS, SARS etc? Why not for seasonal flu EVERY single year as it kills c100k people in the USA yearly?

Bird flu, swine flu etc, didn't spread to as many people, mainly because from the individuals patient's point of view they are more serious. Seasonal flu spreads massively but isn't serious enough to require a significant minority of the population into ICU even if half the country gets it.

The point about Covid 19 is that it's in between the two scenarios, it's the worst of both worlds.

There is a definite advantage to certain groups of people going out and licking as many door handles as possible. Then on catching it locking themselves in to get over it then back out to do their jobs.

LoL you cant be serious? Seasonal Flu kills between 17k-35k in a good year in the UK and in a bad one up to 100k and that's with Flu jabs/medicine to help combat it and the media doesn't bats an eye.

Keep calm and carry on.

When was the last time the seasonal flu overwhelmed Italy's healthcare system and killed over 400 of their people in one day? Keep calm certainly, but don't pretend it's not serious.

I read the other day that one of the tests they are doing/creating is for exactly this. Apparently once you've had it you can't get it again (although, in time, you could get a variant of it).

Funny how the papers never mention the recovered ones. As someone said earlier, it doesn’t sell newspapers, but i would still like to know what they’re up to and if they are out there able to do anything productive.
I would be happy to get it over and done with rather than all this faffing around so I can get on with helping out those more vulnerable than me (elderly relatives mainly).

You are going to look a proper cock in about 6 weeks when you finally realise just how far from the flu this is.

Lol for posterity then and revisit in 6 weeks.

TX.

Edit - "According to an article on a health research website, medRxiv, of 45 000 patients who have contracted this disease, about 81% did not get more ill than if they had a common cold. About 14% of the people affected had to be hospitalized, and of these, 5% had to be ventilated. "

OK, let's scale that up to a widespread outbreak. Say it infects 1/3 of the UK population (very conservative if everyone keeps calm and carries on as normal: they were talking 70% for the herd immunity scenario). That's around 22 million people. 14% of that is 3,080,000 people. 5% of that is 154,000.

The UK has less than 5000 intensive care beds, which are also needed for other non pandemic patients.

Do you really not see the problem here?

You're still in nappies. THIS is real Corona! hehe

Drank gallons of it as a kid, as did others. Imagine, crateful delivered to your door weekly and refunds on returnable bottles. Ah, the good ol' days. No panic about sugar content and not filled with artificial bloody sweeteners like today.

And please, don't take offence anyone. It's a joke!

edit to add for those who don't know. Probably all on here under 40.
It was a Welsh firm who created Corona back in 1950 (the crown logo is 7 strategically place bottles if you look closely).
It really took off and their lorries delivering crateloads of it direct to you door was a common sight.

I always preferred limeade, but I remember the Orange drink was altered by Ivan Colman (one of the Corona bosses if I recall).to add a bit of a 'tang'.

They called it 'Tango'. Bet you've heard of that!

Today, I think Britvic owns the name. It's now a ste drink in a can full of sweeteners. Yuk!

And herein lies part of the problem. The NHS are in the process of having to make some very difficult decisions about which patients utilise ICU beds.
As at January 2019 the percentage of Adult Critical Care beds occupied was 83% - in numbers, that means there were 700 Critical Care beds available in January.

Crit Care beds are used for patients who have had urgent, complex surgery - cancer surgery, cardiac surgery, trauma.

The NHS will need to identify which urgent procedures can be undertaken and which can't to use the capacity that is available as best as possible. I wouldn't want to have to decide whether to operate on a cancer patient, someone who's had a car accident or treat someone with COVID.

No no, you can still turn this around - per the thread title, what happened after you drank them?

Edit - actually joking apart, I wonder if a lot of the anti-vaxxers changing their tunes soon...

Do you even read your own links? The reason the first one was news is because it is so damn rare and in regards to your second one:

'This sort of persistence isn't unheard of among viruses, experts told Live Science, and thankfully, the patients are most likely not very contagious in the post-symptom period. The findings may even be good news, said Krys Johnson, an epidemiologist at Temple University's College of Public Health. The viruses that tend to hang around in people's systems also tend to be the viruses that the body develops a strong immune response against. '

The numbers are obviousy far higher than flu, but the calcs on potential worst case deaths dont take into account deaths that would've occurred anyway....i.e. elderly or underlying health conditions that will be recorded as dying from corona.

UK deaths are around 600,000 per year - a large proportion of whom are in these two categories. The overall death rate for the next 12 months wont be 600,000 + another worst case of 500,000......it will be 600,000 + a much smaller number.

Not saying it isn't serious, and nobody wants to lose a loved one. The peak of death rate will be higher, but the overall increase above annual deaths in a typical year may not be very much. When determining monetary equivalent value of life for drug development purposes, NICE values 1 extra year of life at £20-30k. If you apply this value to the overall NET increase in deaths over the coming year and multiply by reasonable life expectancy, it's still in the low billions..... a tiny proportion of the economic harm we're going to self inflict and which will cause suffering for many.

Italy has around 635,000 deaths a year. In the past 3 months they've lost 4,000 due to corona.
