As this is PH i thought i there would be some fellow sufferers on here.
My syndrome started around when I was around 14 years old and purchased my first motorbike and ever since then I have suffered from dirty hands!
I just cannot get my hands socially acceptable clean , thay are clean but a permanently deep oil stain.
The only time they ever look as clean as the other half is at the end of a 2 week holiday....as soon as we pick up the car from the airport...open the boot...dirty fingers

Now we have C19 and hand washing is heavily promoted ,I have noticed looks of disgust while paying for things.

I guess the answer is to wear gloves...but do other minorities have to "cover up" ?
I am in fear of what will happen in the coming months whilst trying to survive C19 as well as dealing with being a social outcast for a condition I have struggled with for 40 years.
Will the government provide support for the many people with dirty hand syndrome?
Self isolating is a nightmare as it would give me more time to get "grubby paws"
I know I shouldnt complain as people are dying , but the prejudice will only get worse. In a stampede for the last truck load of toiler paper and everyone is pushing and waving money around ...my "working hands" will be the last thing the seller will be grabbing cash from.
This is the only social media I use...can someone make this go "viral" on twitter or something so the prejudice can stop
  1. workinghands (cant do hashtags)

Serious suggestion - have you tried rubbing in some talc, to try and tone down the appearance of the crudiness a little?

Try nitrile gloves when you're spannering, they make the world of difference.

Dermatitis isn't a joke.

How often are you spannering? I started my career as an engineer in the military. Every working day I would be getting my hands dirty, yet I never suffered with the problem!

As someone else has said, try barrier cream.

Yeah, I've been working on stuff for decades, and while my clothes, workbench, concrete floor etc have permanent stains, my skin always stays at least relatively "normal" in tone.

Try using some gritty hand cleaner that has more of a scouring effect, and yes, barrier cream. Derma-Shield areosol foam (kind of like a light shaving foam really) is pretty good.

Also a cheap bar of soap, and "claw" at it to get it under your fingernails before starting work.

Between that and wearing gloves, you really shouldn't have any permanent issues, other than some paints/dyes which really stay on there if you get them on your bare skin.

"Normal" mechanic grease and dirt shouldn't be a problem.

Some people are just porous.

My 9 year old can go all day at an outdoor adventure park and will get in the car at the end of the day as clean looking as at the beginning.

My 6 year old can get out of the bath, get dressed and is filthy again before we leave the house in the morning.

Temporary tattoos fall off the 9 Yr old before the end of the party, they have to be scraped off the 6 Yr old up to a month later.

It's a curious phenomenon.

Sand or sugar used with detergent gets my hands clean after the dirtiest of jobs.
Better than any commercial product does.

I think it all depends if you have naturally oily skin.
If you have it acts as a sort of natural barrier cream.

Wear gloves when spannering.

I only ever notice my hands are truly clean after a 2 week beach holiday. There is always a “**** me, I’ve grown a new layer of skin” moment. Then I go back to spannering.

Try vegetable oil and sugar to get the worst out then use a citrus based hand cleaner.
Old oil can be carcinogenic.

I appreciate the fact it can be a pain handling small engine parts but try and wear nitrile gloves if at all possible.
