I've decided to get a life and take the 'plunge' after 10 years of Porker ownership (some of it very costly you will be surprised/glad? to hear).
I want the new integrated headlights so the car will have to be a demonstrator or unregistered. Budget will stretch to a 4.2 or Speed 6. Question is - Which one? and if I decided to push the boat out and buy a 4.5 ,is it worth it?
I know you can buy in any colour but which ones are most popular and which ones are a no no.

thanks for the e-mail, the colour of my car is Viper Blue, i'm guessing its the colour dodge paint their vipers.

Cant really help with your other points, i've only ever driven the 4.5 so cant comment on the difference, a number of people have posted previously saying that there is no difference between a 4.2 and 4.5 until 130mph!! Zertec have done a headlight conversion for older cerberas to the new style, do a search for zertec and you should find quite a few owners who have changed over.

Anyway good luck in your search, i've had a couple of 944's previously, the cerbera is on a different level to those, even peoples reactions are amazing, they never looked twice at the 944 - unless giving me the v-sign , but now get max-power kids giving me the thumbs up, were-not-worthy gestures. Okay its childish, but its better than getting abuse from them!

Hello,
I rec'd my 4.5 3 weeks ago and have found it truly tremendous. Its my first TVR and nothing can compare to the looks you get from the other drivers.
Mine is a wild oyster colour which personally I think looks stunning. Only down side is that I have to fork out for a new clutch @ only 9K. Bought it privately and the warranty isnt through yet. Never mind, but best of luck with what you choose. ( go on, get a 4.5, you wont regret it!!)

How do you know you need a new clutch when the car hasn't been looked at yet?! Misinformation is the enemy of us TVR enthusiasts!

Thanks for the advice.I would really like nothing more than 6 months old and the budget will go to a Speed 6 at a dealer in Cheshire finished in Iced Teal or a 4.2 in Imperial Blue at a dealer in Harrogate. There are hardly any newish 4.5's around unless you have £50k for a demonstrator (which I don't).
There are some posts on this site from many of you who have had problems with the Speed 6 engine. Surely this engine is sorted now?

We actually developed the blended in headlights nearly 3 years ago. TVR just started with this style earlier this year (and sales picked up for them as a result). Several options are now available including S12 with Perspex covers.

Buy an old style car, upgrade it, put a private plate on and save money.

Often you will be able to do a deal with a dealer to reduce the cost of the upgrade if you are purchasing the car from them. Go for a 4.5

the 4.5 is alot of extra money for some bigger front discs ...

Thought I'd let you know that we are selling a 4.2 Cerbera, this is a unique car, Special Paint job in Reflex Cascade Blue (multi colour) with full gray hide interior, (52k new). Reg in Nov 99 only 9k miles, fsh, warranty till April 03.

The cerb looks wicked in most colours.

However, if you change your mind and decide to go for a colour which really stands out (personal opinion of course), we are selling a 4.5 in sunset pearlescent yellow. £52-£53k when new in Sept 2000, just collected car from 24 month service. Full details in Classified.

What is this aversion you all have with referring to adverts in the gassing station ??
Selling and buying a car (especially on a car enthusiast message board) naturally pops up in most conversations. If we were talking at a table and I mentioned buying a car you wouldn't tell me to shut up and save it for auto-trader would you ???!!??

There are loads of cars for sale, and a fair few of them stop by the discussion boards. If they all started talking about their cars in every thread there would be a lot less interesting discussion imho. Also, if I were trying to sell my car, and I saw others advertising their similar car, I'd want to jump in too. Therefore easier just to say nobody should?

Igpore everything you are told, every thought that is directed by your brain. Ignore every sensible thought, dont wory about the most popular colour, upgrade or spec.

Drive loads, drive some hard, decide what YOU want, and buy it. "One means meat is another mans poisen"

The Cerb is the most personal of cars, and you are the only person that matters.

p.s. 4.2 de cat, 17 or 18 wheels, is the best

Ok, I've done the research and decided to go for a 4.2 02 plate or newer but I am still concerned about some of the experiences some of you have had especially bandit, who had to pay to ship an engine which was being re-built by the factory (presume he lives abroad?), tapster - £20K in 3.5 years, jonrug and a few more all of whom seem to have spent an inordinate amount of time and money on repairs.
Is this the reality?
For the record, there are 16 speed 6's, 6 4.2's and 19 4.5's for sale year 2000 onwards. These nubers were trawled from this site, autotrader and the dealers. What this says I don't know (apart from the fact that there are 41 cerberas for sale which seems on the high side)

From memory Bandit was 'done' by a dealer I believe due to a bit of a communication problem as I'm sure he lives in the UK? BANDIT!!

Yeah sure, Cerbs cost a lot to maintain but they are basically race engined cars on the road and so are high-maintenance. I would buy an V8-engined one before a Speed Six one but that's just my opinion.

It's a buyer's market for all TVRs so it seems at present so pick the best you can for your money and don't rush the decision.
