Sagaris month 2
Discussion
They don't do an icon which gets anywhere near how I feel about my car right now.
This weekend I took the odometer from 1200 to nearly 1800. I've been gradually increasing my adjustable shift light points. The red shift light is now on 6000, so still quite a way to go but gorblimey the car is already seriously quick. Top speed reached is ahem quite high but very, very impressive is the car's high speed stability. It seems the wings and aero bits are doing something after all. The engine with the customer exhausts is a little, well, flatulent low down but up past 4000 the note really starts to harden and it fills the cabin with a real le mans car noise. It's probably twice as loud inside over 4000, never the less a louder exhaust is high on my list of mods. Still the sound is very intoxicating at the moment, as is the linear, progressive thrust at and above these rpm.
On the motorway it's a great gt car, tirelessly eating the miles and sets into a natural, comfortable cruise at around 110 (kilometers obviously
) on a light throttle in 5th. Again under 4000 rpm music from the stereo is audible. Over that, less so but the engine sounds better than anything in my cd collection, so that's ok. To borrow from last nights awful top gear, Richard (morgan) Hammond said of the Aston convertible that it was a death bed memory. Well I've got one for the Sagaris owners. It's called the A272.
Just stop reading this and take your car there right now. I was struck dumb and genuinely astonished at the car's pace on that road. I've been lucky enough to own plenty of fast, expensive cars and I know the road well. Nothing I've ever driven down that road compares to the Sagaris yesterday afternoon. It's like the road and the car were made for each other. At higher speeds the car's body control and suspension works even better. Maybe downforce is coming into play, maybe it's just really well set up but the car was simply devastating between winchester and the A3. And I'm not even using full beans! Perhaps if I was it would all feel a bit too fast for the road but in terms of overtaking ability and general agility - whilst somehow remaining totally composed - the Sagaris is peerless in my experience. Mind blowing, intense, superb.
I was prepared to put up with a few quirks and to accept that something like a Lotus Exige is probably superior in terms of handling. I'd have bought the Sagaris anyway because of the way it looks and goes and for all the things that makes TVRs so great. And I was prepared to put up with some of the things which make TVRs not so great. But nothing prepared me for just how bloody good and well sorted this thing is.
The grip is immense and I'm pleased to say that the seats are supporting better now. I guess they've bedded down a bit under my weight. But you better make sure you've got everything strapped down in this car because it can fling CD cases around the cabin so fast you can do yourself an injury.
In the interests of giving a fair and balanced account there are a few niggles. The seat belt doesn't always fasten into the clip properly. Potentially dangerous and needs a thorough check before driving off. The rubber seals around the bonnet could have been glued on more lovingly and as previously mentioned the bonnet does wobble up and down quite a bit. I've also lost a black rubber thing from the back of the rear window.
But right now these things have never seemed so insignificant. I'd still love the vents to be open if only for appearances sake but the way this thing drives has well and truly ghasted my flabber.
It's a truly magnificent achievement from what must be a tiny development budget. Screw top gear. My car doesn't smell of glue it smells of leather and damn nice it is too. For me at least, TVR do it better than anyone.

I'm gonna have to get one , ya know? Looks like I'll have to wait to September 06 before the finances allow (as long as the work doesn't dry up
)
So I'll probably put in an order after Christmas.
In one way I wish you lot would post, "what a load of s
t the Sagaris is".

Now to be fair Pits I *did* say that the aero stuff on the car doesnt really do anything below the ton. Hence why everybody was gobbing off before about them being just stick on Max Power wannabe stuff. You wont really feel the front splitters and like working unless you are looking at near 150+ because they front wont be getting too light at lower speeds than that anyway. The Gurney Flap will make its presence felt above about 80 though. Amazing the stuff you know about aerodynamics when you design planes for a living
Glad to see you are being sensible with the engine, must admit thats how I treat an engine in her first 2k miles.
I only have one worry which I gleaned from my time with the test cars, how the arse end deals with the extra downforce generated from the Gurney Flap. I have a suspicion it wasnt damped enough as you are hitting the stops. Let us know how you get on as you expore the 2 figure region across the interesting roads
P.S. The *really* interesting thing about the Sagaris aeros and the Gurney Flap is the fact that it is curved! But Id think Id bore you all about why that is
Anyway it is home time and its sunny so Im going to enjoy the Griff while I still have him.
July 25th. Come Get Some!
I was definitely seeing 100+ from time to time
as you can imagine it's not difficult. The front splitters are huge and go right underneath the nose if that makes any difference. But either way I probably wouldn't recognize downforce if even if I did have it. All I know is that the car feels even better at speed and was breathtakingly grippy, responsive and composed. It's a serious, serious A-road weapon. You guys with orders are in for such a treat. There's a day and a road waiting for you when it will all make sense in a very big way.
As for bumpy B-roads it will ground eventually and it is a little on the firm side but given how low it is I think it's actually very good. So far I've only really felt it ground lightly once. Obviously care has to be taken with speed bumps etc. but so far I've not had any problem in London with them. If I don't like the look of a speed bump I'll turn round though! I'm understandably precious about it.

Just found out something a little disconcerting.......
Back from said drive....went through our seaside town on the way home....and holidaymakers jay walking just stop to stare at it....in the middle of the road
One guy had to be yelled at to get out of the way of oncoming traffic
Drove her back from the Mid Essex Meet yesterday
A12 A120....
I love this TVR......(have I mentioned that before!!)

What...really? Bloody ell. Er first time outside of work and talking to worky friends that somebody has actually expressed an interest and not faked falling asleep as soon as I even went nr the subject!
Im actually kinda shocked to be honest! Do you want it on here or on mail?
Im snatching 5 mins on lunch break at work, so will post fully tonight.
Just for the record though Im now kinda scared about you lot cos yer wierd! Only sad b@stard engineers and ppl who watching Discovery Wings find this interesting!
Still, welcome to my world
Oi Nick, whats that geek symbol you use, cos think Im going to need it this evening

DJC, without experts like you my friend..
Planes would crash if they ever got off the ground and the Sagari would be unstable.
Not even slightly boring. Have a look at the nonsense being posted by the trolls in P&P and try and stay awake.
Bless us with you knowledge oh mighty one!
