Hi all,

I have a Manual 2016 Golf R on 67000 miles.

To start the car you have to depress the clutch, when released with the car in neutral there’s an awful rattle/clunking from the gearbox area, Which lasts for a couple of seconds.

Clutch doesn’t slip, feels okay to use. Only does it on the initial start up and doesn’t do it once warmed up.

Any advice appreciated.

Could be a sign the Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) is on it's way out or perhaps the timing chain tensioner.

I don’t think it’s the timing chain. It’s definitely from the clutch/ gearbox area. Its quite a harsh clunk, clunk, clunk noise! As if two plates are rattling together?

I’ve been told throw out bearing? But not so sure...

As above, almost certainly the DMF, but you need to get it into a garage to have it diagnosed to be sure.
