WRC 8 is a much better rally game. Smaller car list but the handling is much better and the tracks are way more detailed. in Dirt Rally 1 and 2 I find the handling to be poor and quite unrealistic, it's very arcadey WRC 8 takes more time to learn but is much more rewarding.
Thanks, I'll have a look, best platform?I've got Dirt and WRC 8
Dirt 2.0 looks and sounds better, better selection of cars, co-driver sounds and flows better.
WRC 8 handles better on both dirt and tarmac, the stages are truly epic with a good selection of locations. Pressing on in a modern WRC car at Corsica, I was actually mentally drained by the end of the rally. Brilliant game.

Im playing through dirt (1) on PS4 at the moment. Generally it's quite good, though on the T300RS wheel the FFB is odd on tarmac (good elsewhere), and the physics of the car regarding its weight are strange too (very easy to roll to flip).
Ive heard the physics of WRC8 or Sebastien loeb evo rally are better but they are worse in other areas (gameplay, graphics etc). Dirt 2 is meant to have better physics too but worse FFB (if that matters to you)

What are your settings?
I'll check them over the next couple of days and post here. FFB is very subjective though - my idea of good FFB may feel terrible to someone else.I'd also keep in mind that not all settings work the same for all hardware. My wheelbase is direct drive so, there may be software settings that don't exist on other wheelbases and the effects of other settings might be quite different depending on the hardware.
Can't hurt to try them though.

Unless you buy the expansions Dirt 2.0 is a shell of a game, and even then is still missing several things that were in the previous title such as different co drivers or custom liveries. Brutally difficult as well, even on the lowest difficulty you can't afford any mistakes in a stage that can be 10 minutes long. Yet it is still oddly addictive and does look beautiful.
I played Dirt Rally (1) again tonight for the first time in months, and was reminded why I stopped bothering with it.
The whole user interface is frustratingly rubbish (how am I supposed to know what 'Button 17' is on my wheel for example, they aren't labelled!), had to reset control settings because it decided to forget them, had to do a google search to rediscover that the option to switch between H-gate shifter and sequential isn't in control settings at all, its in user profile. Then I had to exit and restart because it wouldn't let me assign 4th gear, telling me 'Button 12' was already taken (even though it wasn't). Mutter mutter rant rant stupid thing.
Once I did get playing again I was reminded that the handling / physics isn't great, gravel doesn't feel like real gravel, you can be driving along a straight and suddenly be spinning through the air or bounced into the trees from hitting an invisible bump... and so on. Some enjoyable moments as well to be fair, but quite frustrating.
And the pace notes often only have a vague correlation with the actual stage, I always enjoyed it more if I mostly ignored them and drove to what I could see.
Maybe I should see if I can get good old Richard Burns Rally running on this PC, I have much better memories of that game. Difficult but immensely satisfying.

This is probably my biggest single gripe with the Dirt Rally games. Sometimes you hit one of these invisible bumps and it's all over. I think they designed it deliberately to stop you from going too fast in certain parts of the courses, however it's not consistent and doesn't give you anything to learn from other than "drive slower next time".At least in WRC 8, if I came off I felt like I understood why and could adjust accordingly next time.
