ive purchased a ten year old merc and the paintwork is a bit rough. Can anyone recommend a clay bar that doesnt cost the earth. I tried a cheapo one off ebay that was rubbish. May as well used blue tac!

That's weird as my cheapo eBay one worked great to get some lacquer overspray off my paintwork

It's all largely the same stuff so it's strange that your didn't work

I use a clay mitt. May be frowned upon in the detailing community but works well in my view and super easy to use

The cheap eBay st was utterly st. Basically turned into pure rubber, couldn't even try to use it. Even tried hot water to soften it but nope.

Avoid like the plague!! Get decent stuff or don't bother. grumpy

I bought my cheapy stuff after using all of my Bilt Hamber stuff and didn't fancy spending £15 again so I got the blue eBay ste and whilst it was firmer, I used boiling water in a mug to soften it and I have to say there was no difference in the result of the more expensive stuff.

It actually removed the overspray from every panel of my Clio when I stupidly lacquered the headlights in the garage with insufficient masking

I think it was £3 or so
