Hi guys, as the title states, which Parts on a car move when free wheeling with engine off?

Obviously i know the wheels move lol but the reason i ask is when I'm driving around in my car which is a 2010 320d msport manual i get a whistle/screeching sound coming from the front end which is more noticeable when driving past parked cars as the sound bounces off of them.

The sound doesn't get seem to be there when parked up and idling and doesn't get any louder or more occuring the faster i go.

I have noticed if i turn the engine off when going down hill and free wheel past parked cars the sound is still there?

I've had a new tensioner, crankshaft pulley and fanbelt which hasn't fixed.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I had them done about 6 months ago but must admit i did get the cheapest option from euro car parts so it could very well be them.

If i take them off is there any tell tale signs that they're the cause?

Can a mechanic tell which any 1 if not all are the problem without totally stripping down?

Does the noise go away under very light pressure on the brakes?

I doesn't under "normal" breaking but don't really do light breaking. I'm going out shortly so I'll give it a try and report back lol

Just got back from my travels and i tried light pressure on the brakes and no change and same for the steering left/right. As for the radiator fan, i have no idea lol

I did notice though that when i approach a speed bump i get a sharp "screech" very very similar to the constant sound when in motion and i will say it's when i 1st hit the speed bump with my front wheels and not just my back wheels.

Thanks for taking the time to help guys.

????

So what are you doing when you approach a speed bump as the car doesn't do anything when you are approaching a speed bump?

If they were changed to sort the issue out then you have wasted your money as you say it doesn't happen at standstill with the engine running.

The only things rotating (I am assuming the noise is constant at a constant speed) are the wheels/drive shafts/gearbox.

So the fault will be brakes, wheel bearings or gearbox related.

My best guess would be brakes or wheel bearings, either way it should be pretty easy for any competent mechanic to trace which.

I wouldn't go out and break a light if I were you. I don't think it will help.

Well the garage i usually take it to originally said that the crankshaft pulley had a crack in it which he showed me and when he said that he said if it doesn't cure it then it could be the fly wheel so you could very well be right and if I'm having a new fly wheel then it makes sense to do the clutch whilst it's all out but perhaps b4 going down that route then maybe it's best i check wheel bearing 1st as its probably cheaper lol
