Pretty much as per the title.

Couple of primary school kids now at home, needing a Chromebook for 4 months or so of home schooling.

What do we need? Which brand to look at, which spec? How much to spend?

Do they come ready to go out of the box?

A bewildering selection it seems so help me out please !!

FWIW I asked the same question https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... . They turned up two days later from Amazon for £230. We've only just got round to opening the boxes but seem perfect so far.

Thanks Bill, Costco have the Asus ones so will grab a couple. Suspect these will be the next things to see demand soar! Thanks for responding.

If you want a slightly bigger option get a LG Chromebase (can probably still get them new on eBay). I run one as my everyday machine a long with a Linux Dell XPS for more complex stuff.

Works well, only thing I've done is upped the ram to 8GB from 4GB.

To save starting loads of threads on the same subject I hope you don't mind me jumping on yours.

I am looking for a cheap Chromebook to cover homeschooling for the next few months. I don't want to spend a huge amount as I'm not sure how much use it will get so I am happy for a refurbished one. Any recommended sellers?

Of course, we ended up with a couple of Acer chrome book 314 models from Costco and they work a treat. Look like a MacBook, fairly robust and come loaded with all the software and tools kids need. They are powering through school work.

We’re £199 + VAT each.

We've got two Acer touchscreen chromebooks (r11 and r13) and both been excellent value for money. I got them both 'refurbished' from laptops direct, one was A1 grade and the other A2. Both were like brand new not a mark on them, boxed etc. and have lasted over 18 months so far with no issues.

Stay away from Lenovo, have had two now which have inexplicably failed at bootup, likely due to cheap memory being used.

That's potentially worrying smile

Did some research online and ended up ordering a couple of Lenovo C330 2-in-1s (latest version)...My experience of Lenovo Thinkpads is very positive so hopefully they'll be OK.

Only wrinkle is that despite their site saying "in stock", they aren't. And they have parts supply issues (quelle surprise). Current eta is end of April - no real biggie as the kids are off for Easter now until 20th April...so should only be a couple more weeks using normal kit. Gives me a bit of time to gen up on parental controls on them.

They cost £300 incl. a built in webcam (£250 without).

Took the view that these can replace their ageing iPads as well as be used as a laptop replacement. They're splash proof and built to withstand drops.
