Should this be plugged into this? (Starter Cable)
Discussion
So, I'm still pulling my hair out over the random ignition on / not coming on, and starting or not starting. My latest fiddlings today may have a solution. After a bit of rummaging around near the big fuse I found the yellow cable labelled Starter unplugged, no idea where that came from, but there is also the grey housing thing that has a spade inside with nothing attached.....
I don't want to just plug one into the other and try it in case something fries, but it does look as if these two may have been very loose and then have freed themselves with my rummaging.

Cheers

Thanks - not the world's best connection but it fitted back in and although wiggling around as if it's about to come loose again, the car did start. Difficult to access and make a better connection in there but it will do for now, and yes the ignition is still rather unpredictable. Chain of events just now:
No ignition lights on black button press.
Connect jump lead between earth strap and -ve terminal of battery
Ignition lights on black button press!
starter cable reconnected.
No ignition lights on black button press
Press and hold black button in frustration for 10 seconds
Ignition lights! But red button won't extinguish...
Black button held down, starter rapid fires on and off but no car start
Red button now works.
Black button just rapid fires starter clicking but doesn't start car
Disconnect jump leads from earth strap, no change
Leave it for 30 minutes and have a drink
Black button press lights up ignition immediately, and when held down the car starts as if nothing was ever wrong.
The Cerb's electrics have been absolutely no problem for the last 9 years of ownership, so maybe I just deserve it now.
I'm not sure what's more annoying, a problem that you can't fix, or one that fixes itself and then unfixes itself randomly.
Ah well, at least my soldering on the Vixen worked and I now have indicators and brake lights again. The simplicity of a 70's Tivver....

I’d be inclined to see what you have or haven’t got going into the immobiliser, when you do a Black button press.
Then more importantly, what’s coming out of the immobiliser.
In terms of the immobiliser, I know the internal relay to the starter motor, s
ts itself and fails. I had a brand new replacement system fitted, and it lasted less than a year.
In your case, it’s feasible that the internal relay for the ignition, is also on it’s way.
