Hi I need to be able to face time a friend in a care home as I'm not allowed to visit any more due to the curret covid 19 problem.
The problem I have is I know nothing about apple as all my stuff is andriod, What is my best option, cheap Ipad, or Iphone 5/c/se/s ?
Do I need a particula level of ios?
I can't use any other option i.e. whats app as I need to be able to group chat with face time, plus I can't get in to the home add anything to her Ipad!

Pretty much any i device. An iPod touch wouldn’t be a bad shout I’d say, or an older iPhone.

Is there not a cross platform app that will do what you need? Does Whatsapp or Facebook chat not have a video option?

Facebook messenger, WhatsApp or Skype etc will work on both iOS and android.. all extremely simple to use. If it's for someone elderly I'd advise WhatsApp.

An iPhone SE like this will do the job:

As i said I need to use face time as thats what she is used to and I want to do group facetime.
Don't really want to spend too much as I won't use it after allthis madness ends.

So an early 1st gen Ipad mini would do even though it's only on ios5?

Minimum specs for FaceTime (one to one calls) is simply an:
  • any iOS device (iphone/ipad/ipod)
  • with iOS 7 or later installed

For Group FaceTime you'd need a minimum of:
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPad Pro
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Mini 4
  • iPad (5th gen or later)
  • iPod Touch (7th gen or later)
  • with iOS 12.1.4 / iPad OS installed
Cheapest option for Group FaceTime would be the 32gb 7th Gen iPod Touch (about £160 new on Amazon) - assuming you have access to wifi where you need to use it.

That's brilliant, that's exactly what I needed to know.
Thanks for taking the time for that.
