hoping any windows NT experts can help me out here...

We've got an old server that occasionally suffers a Dr Watson in a particular service. When this happens everything tends to grind to a halt until someone clicks on either "OK" or "Cancel" in the pop-up alert dialogue.

What I'm wondering is if there is a way to automatically close this without requiring user input? I know I can disable Dr Watson altogether but I'm not keen on this...

Just realised I meant to type "elimentary, my dear Watson" as the title. oops

Livingstone, Watson, it's all the same to me.

Here you go.

Open your registry and navigate to or create this key.

System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftDrWatson]
Value Name: VisualNotification
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "VisualNotification" and set it to either "0" disabled or "1" enabled.

This should work on NT 4, you may need to restart the server (hopefully not!).

Neil.
