Reports on Facebook and local media that a 7 year old girl has had her throat cut in Queens Park in Bolton.

Horrific if true.

Corporation Park in Blackburn is exactly the same as you describe

The elderly bowlers were getting assaulted and robbed

I spent many many hours playing in the woods as a kid .. I wouldn’t let my kids anywhere near it now

What’s the world coming too?

Happens on a fairly frequent basis, these kinda things. Often you find out that they were well known to the local mental health professionals and were care in the community off their meds.

Reports say a women randomly appeared and attacked a random kid she didn't know

The next time somebody tells me my generation are from the 'bad 'ol days' ie: the 50s and 60s, I really will shake my head harder! rolleyes

As I've said plenty of times, the ones who state this crap were first and foremost, not f. there!

And secondly, the bad 'ol days are here staring you right in the f. face.

GMP statement:

Earlier today (Sunday 22 March 2020) at 2:34pm, police were called to Queen’s Park in Bolton following reports that a child had been stabbed.

Ambulance and police attended and found that a seven-year-old girl had been attacked by a woman with a knife. The child sustained extremely serious injuries and, despite the best efforts of her family and medical responders, she sadly died a short while later.

A 30-year-old woman was detained by a member of the public immediately after the attack and was arrested by police at the scene, initially on suspicion of attempted murder and subsequently for murder.

The woman is not known to the family of the little girl.

Assistant Chief Constable, Russ Jackson of GMP, said: “Words cannot describe how awful this attack is. The family were out in the park, enjoying the spring sun when in a totally unprovoked and random attack this little girl sustained horrendous injuries and sadly died a short while later.

“A 30-year-old woman who was not known to the family was detained by a member of the public and then arrested by the police. She is currently in custody for murder and it is expected she will be interviewed by detectives later.

“We are working to understand the motive for this completely random and brutal attack. We understand that the woman has some history of mental illness and we are working to understand if this played any part in her motive.

“We have sent specialist family liaison officers to support the family. This is a family’s worst nightmare. The incident is horrendous and I cannot begin to imagine what the family of this little girl are going through.

“We are determined to quickly understand how this came to happen, leaving a young family so distraught and so devastated in an instant."

Bolton’s fall from grace has been staggering.

Neighbouring towns like Bury or Wigan are poor, but they have always been thus.

When I were a lad, Bolton was definitely a cut above them.

It’s been like watching a strapping lad turn into a smackhead.

I live and work in Bolton, previously having lived in Bury. The difference between two towns only a few miles apart is astounding. l don't want this to be overtaken by politics, as I am just shocked at the absolute barbarity of the incident.

I know that mental health provision in Bolton is very poor compared to the demand required. Working as a nurse I see lots of patients with pre-existing mental health problems. The care is not there.

Nope. Compared to today they were very much one-offs in that it was f. rare!

Hardly anyone bats an eyelid these days, within a week it's forgotten.

Nor do I forget Mary Bell back in the day.
I actually set a headline on our local rag when I was still only a second-year apprentice - we had the shocking news the same time as the national press headlined it.
How did we get that news? Someone picked up a black thing in the reporter's office, with a round dial on full of numbers, after it made a ringing noise. He then, from this black thing with a dial, rang the main local provincial newspaper, and a motorcyclist hack was despatched from our offices to pick up more details (for all those who think it was different back then when there was no 24 hour news and stuff that happened nearly 300 miles away went unheard of for days or weeks) - actually there is no 24 hour news today, it is 24 hours of repetitive news - put the news on a 7am and you'll hear the same repeated all day until midnight).

So, no, I don't forget things like the Moors bds, nor Mary Bell. Can you name some more? I can't.

Fast forward to more modern times and it's not commonplace but it damn well feels like it.

Otherwise, you wouldn't get comments like those above about how fked up we've become in this country.

Nothing new.

Been several like that in my town.

I remember one 30 plus years ago.

Woman attacked a lady stood in a queue behind my other half. Police came and said it’s ok we know who she is.

Two days later a bearded dr ( I remember his picture) said she was perfectly safe and they let her out.

She walked up and stabbed a girl to death around 7 who was looking at chocolate in a Thornton’s window.
