With the world seemingly on hold i fancy adding a bike to the collection and have narrowed it down to 2 MV Brutales.
One is a 2013 800 triple at £4350, the other a 2005 910R 4-cylinder at £3,900.
The earlier bike has half the mileage at 13,000 (26 seems rather a lot for a 2013 sports bike).
I know the triple is supposed to be a great engine, narrow, compact, etc and sounds amazing but the 910R has great spec and 139 bhp, compared to 125 for the smaller bike.
Of the 2 which would you go for?

I bought a Brutale 800RR in 2015 and it's been excellent.

I've had a 2014 Brutale 800 since new. 17000 miles on it now and it's been epic.

I went for the 4 pot, the riding position is more roomy/upright and of course more go ....particularly with a few mods .. Not just the headline figure, but the torque/power delivery....A lot of bike for the money. I have 15k miles on my 2015 1090RR and its been faultless ....touch wood smile

Get on to the MV Agusta Owners Club UK Facebook group. Closest thing to a UK club. Lots of knowledge people on there and many of the dealers and an a MV rep.
I hear the admins are too guys too wink

Out of the two I’d take the 4 pot. The early triples are basically F3’s with no fairings and bars. The later Brutale’s are more focused on being a naked bike.

great....thats a lot of bike for the money smile

Check out the rear hub is serviced regularly and not over torqued, was a common issue with non experienced owners abusing them/not understanding the maintenance . Lots on the forums inc upgraded hubs as last resort....with such low mileage shouldnt be an issue.

110 miles into ownership. First impressions.
Seat is very shiny and i am constantly sliding forward, so may need a different material on there.
Extremely low geared for a 910cc with 6 cogs. I am always looking for top when i am already in it! May well had a tooth at the front some time.
Impressive low down power and handles fantastically well, the steering is so light and it feels smaller than most 600s, to be honest.
Sounds great and the one time i tested it fully it went extremely well for a 15 year old 900 naked! Pretty damn quick.
The fuelling is certainly not as good as something like a FZ1 Yamaha and indeed it stalled on me twice whilst doing 20 or so mph, which wasn't too much fun.
I shall give it a set of iridium plugs and some 99 octane fuel and see if that helps a fraction.
Full of character and looks wonderful in my book.
For the price of a new Duke 125.

Cool....the seat is easy fix, MV recognised this and offered an upgrade seat with neoprene grippy material, I fit that after a few weeks. You may get lucky and find one on ebay or the classifieds on the MV forums.

The fueling is well known and easy fix too, a few places in the UK can map them....worth doing after an exhaust upgrade smile

For parts (seat etc) I can recommend Evolution bike one of the (if not the) best MV dealers in Italy, huge range of every product you may need and a few days direct from Italy....depending on exchange rate situation often much cheaper than here https://evolutionbike.it/mvagustastore/

Found a few threads on the MV forum, worth registering there, lots of experienced owners. You can also download for free all the workshop manuals for your model.

https://www.mvagusta.net/search/8314/?q=clutch+dra...

try an oil change, make sure correct spec.

If the clutch slave cylinder piston seal is worn, air can enter the system under normal operation,it's called air ingress which is common to any hydraulic system. It doesn't need to be open to air to cause this problem.Replacing the slave cylinder/seal will fix the problem if loss of lever pressure is your issue.

I had a brutale dragster 800rr with a very optimistic Claimed 140ps

I did 10,000 miles in 18 months and although it had niggles it was mainly really good

I did ramsey sprint 1/8th mile and was beaten just by (I think) the 910 4 pot. It was just slightly quicker every time

Love the 800 triple sound, feel and exclusivity. You don't see many

The modern MVs may be very good

but the looks and tech of anything Magni with 4 end exhaust would be one of my "lottery win" bikes.
