2014 Ford Fiesta Battery terminal bolt/nut?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I changed my battery recently and had a major ordeal disconnecting the negative due to a rusted/fused/otherwise dodgy bolt. Not entirely sure what's up with it as it looks fine, but it gets stuck and won't move past a certain point. I finally managed to get it off with the help of vice grips (advice taken from here, thank you!) but upon trying to reconnect the battery, the nut would NOT tighten back on the bolt.
Went to Halfords, got a battery terminal connector thinking I could just take the bolt out of that as it was identical (and they didn't sell them separately, maybe for a reason...?) and use that, but it's just slightly too big. I'm not confident nor competent enough to replace the entire thing, so that's not an option.
I've tried looking on eBay for just the bolt but I have no idea if there's a specific one I need, and putting in my car's model and year doesn't help, I either get the same thing I got from halfords showing up, or I get completely different looking bolts and I'm not educated enough to know if I can use them or not.
Does anyone know where I can get just the bolt/nut and if there's a specific one a need? I'm no mechanic so apologies for any incorrect terminology, or if this is a stupid question but I refuse to pay someone to fix this if it's just a matter of needing a bolt. I've replaced my battery before successfully and when I started my car without tightening the bolt, it started up fine so it's literally just a matter of needing the correct bolt.
Any advice?
Thanks

The threads will be galled up inside the old nut I imagine.
Any bolt of the right length and diameter should do really; they’re square on one side so you don’t need two tools to remove the terminal connector as the square will stop it spinning when you undo it.
If you go to your local independent motor factors rather than Halfords, they’ll probably have exactly what you need for a lower price, and if not they’ll tell you where to get it or order it in. Take the old stuff with you.
Failing that, measure the width of the good threads on the bolt as well as the length and ring them up to ask for an M*whatever size* battery terminal bolt and nut.
