Degrease advice

I had to change my oil filter gasket on my e46. I've taken the housing off and its filthy. I want to give it a good clean but worried about getting water in it. Is this an issue if I clean it thoroughly and allow it to dry. I would remove the sensors first, so no electrics.

It's fine as long as it isn't full of water when you refit it.

Brake cleaner?

Water

an empty ice cream tub, bit of white spirit and an old paint brush. wipe dry with rag or paper roll... no water

Brake cleaner and a rag will all evaporate within minutes

Engine cleaner/degreaser.
brush on, agitate wash off with water. a good quality agent will have awater dispersant in it.

Thanks. I wasnt going to power house it. Any recommendations for degreaser...

Wear gloves though, because it does a cracking job of degreasing your hands as well!

I rinse of with water, leave to dry and then a once over with brake clean and a rag will leave it spotless.
