Hi Russel

I've re read all the codes and i have the following:

494A DDE Glow System

4CAO DDE Oip Pressure switch

4501 DDE EGR

4BDC DDE Fuel Pre supply

4390 DDE Charge air temp short or open circuit

When i clear all the codes after starting the engine only the 494A is present.

Would this stop the read line changing from 4800 to 5000 and for the boost pressure to be reduced. (7-04 value in hidden menu)

As i've said im new to the DIS V57 diagnostic s/w

Any advice

Thanks

Can you find a wiring diagram for your glow plug module ?

It’d be a shame to swap it, if you’ve a loose connection, blown fuse, knackered relay etc...

i pulled out the intake air temp and measured the resistance and it was approx 2.75k ohms and decreased at to about 1.65 k as i heated it up after cleaning it

there no fuse to the glow plug control relay , the supply is direct from the alternator.

Do you have an in depth knowledge of the N47 2.0 litre bi turbo diesel engine ECU configuration ?

I don’t have the internal drawings for the engine ecu’s that I work on, on a daily basis biggrin

Different manufacturer, but I have drawings for our glow plug modulators.

A positive, none fused supply, from an alternator is certainly a strange one. Got me wondering what the benefits of that are confused

Has the air temp sensor got any voltages/grounds going to it, with the engine running ?

I’d expect to see something like 5V coming in on one side.

russel if you know the BMW N47 ECU and glow plug system then thats how its wired unless youve got in depth knowledge please state that.

I need to fix the car without giving BMW a blank cheque and my ass across the hood !

Its hard to justify paying 1200 dollar to BMW or a specialist when theres only a 400 margin in the car

Done some mooching about and found this diagram... And it shows a Fuse F02 for your glow plug control module, unless I’m looking at the wrong car/engine ?

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e90-320d-lim/wi...

Also, had a quick look what else that F02 goes to, and it looks like it’s the supply to your EGR solenoid....

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e90-320d-lim/wi...

I could see what else that fuse supplies, but work have called me in tomorrow for something ‘essential’ rolleyes , so I’m off to bed.

Hi Russel

Many thanks for the info and wiring detail from TIS. I did check the supply from the +ve terminal on the alternator that supplies the Glow plug control unit and its connected to the battery. The FO2 fuse is probably a solid link on the battery box so all seems fine there. I've looked on line about faults with the Glow Control relay and it looks fairly common for them to fail and not knowing if its a short on a burnt out glow plug that takes out the controller i've decided to replace all of them at the same time as the relay for £102.

The fault code 494A is basically saying there is no feed back to say the controller is sending power to the all the glow plugs i think ?

I'm also going to replace the inlet air sensor at the same time but what i still need to know is what conditions will stop the 07-04 value (hidden menu value) changing from 4800 rpm to 5000 rpm.

Thanks again
