Clicking sound from driver side wheel
Discussion
Hi,
I've got a clicking sound when I pull away from a stop. It only clicks once and goes away. I've had the drivers side driveshaft replaced due to the boot splitting and dumping grease everywhere. The clicking sound was there before and still remains after replacement of the offisde driveshaft .
I jacked the car up and spun the wheel by hand but couldn't replicate the click. I've attached a link that I hope captures it over the diesel clatter lol. From 5 secs onwards you can hear the click.

Thanks

If it’s only when pulling away from a stop and only happens once, I’d be thinking about brakes.I've got a clicking sound when I pull away from a stop. It only clicks once and goes away. It could the pads moving in the calipers as they get dragged when coming off the pedal, or the retaining springs maybe?
I’ve seen poorly made pads with backing plates that were out of spec shunt about in callipers under breaking and when setting off before. Had the guy who owned the car scratching his head for a good while looking at suspension and driveshaft components.
That's a good shout on the bearing, I'll jack it up again and see if there's any play.
Regarding the brakes, that has come to my mind. However the click is there when setting off the driveway without touching the brakes only disengaging the handbrake and moving forward.
The click is only noticed if I just use the clutch to move forward without any gas.
I have noticed that it if i use a little gas when setting off the clicking sound isn't present, although it could have been drowned out by the engine noise.
Thanks for your helps guy and any more input is appreciated. Will get it to a garage when I get a chance.

Don't forget that under these circumstances the last thing the car has done is to be "braked" to a standstill in reverse & then when you pull away the backlash on the pads is in the opposite direction.Still brakes if it is just one click when you move.
Does the car have a manual handbrake? Can you take the pads out of the front and use it to stop the car to rule them out?
Nothing much else to add other than to say I’ve spelled braking incorrectly up there in a moment of madness and will be hanging my head in shame for the foreseeable.

Hi Guys thanks for the input,
The car's a Mk6 Golf. The clicking sound is present every time I set off from a dead stop, no matter if forward or backwards. I think it may be the brakes as I have a noticed the pedal does not feel smooth when applying. I can almost feel the clicking sensation as I press it.
I thought maybe it's the CV joint clicking as I set off? But it's only the one click and happens no matter what the steering angle.
