I have a mk7 fiesta st, I returned home from driving and noticed I couldn't find the key.

the car starts so it has to be in there somewhere, I've looked under the seats, under carpet mats, everywhere I can see!

any ideas ?

Under the car ?? jammed between the seat base and the back or down a side bolster gap, along the runners on the inside edge, get a knitting needle or chopstick to check etc ...

Get your partner to look, it'll be somewhere obvious you're not looking like a coat pocket biggrin

Hate when this happens.

If it’s safe to leave it for 20 mins go and do something else then come back to it.
Amazing what you can miss once a bit of panic or frustration sets in.

Wife did this a few years back when she left the keys on the roof.

Her thoughts 'car starts keys must be here somewhere'

10 miles later at 70mph however... frown

had a look with a torch on the seat runners, can't see it there - unless its perfectly hidden and wedged in them? the seats move forward and backwards to their full extent smoothly also

it's not in my coat or on me as I've got someone to start the car whilst I was over 100meters away

the only place I can think of is possibly in that gap in the middle behind the handbrake but surely that's unlikely as the gap in the handbrake is only open whilst it's on

Fiesta Eh! If it would fit down the hole behind the handbrake then that is where it will be. I have had 3 mk6/7 fiestas and every one of them swallowed something. You can get most things out by removing the 2 side bolts and tilting the rear of the console up enough to fish things out.

It doesn’t help OP, but this has happened to me quite a few times. What was wrong with a key that turned in a slot? I don’t get the benefit of these systems and the slot acted as a holder so you couldn’t lose it!
I’m rarely a curmudgeon who complains about how the old ways were best (I almost always prefer the new innovation), but this one has me puzzled

There is no benefit as you still have to pick up keys and stick in pocket and still have to push starter button, you only save a few seconds of not having to stick the key in.

I'd be getting the socket set out and taking the front seats out for a better look, it's only four bolts plus the electrical connector underneath.

My dad lost his before, they ended up being on the windscreen down in where the wipers sit. He was looking for ages.

I've done similar as well, and they were under the boot floor. (Mk7 GTI)

A friend of mine has his keys now attached to a lanyard which stays round his neck whenever he's out. Initially I thought it weird, but he said his daughter had a meltdown when she couldn't find the keys when home on the drive. Ended up being in her jacket pocket, with said jacket thrown into the back seat and forgotten about. Now all car keys are on lanyards and you have to wear them out, and he's leading by example.
