Does anyone still 'play' LFS ? i dip in and out of it as when time allows but noticed that the online servers seem almost empty. Is that because I've only an S2 licence and people have moved on up to the next licence or just lack of users ?

The developers appear to be working on updating it again, but as far as I know the community started dying around the point the VW Scirocco and Rockingham were permanently "a few weeks away" for several years. Certainly the last time I picked it up the only people playing were mostly messing around with the various tools allowing you to change the engine and chassis settings for the cars, although that was before the current work to improve the graphics.

Shame as it was really promising back in the day, unfortunately they appeared to run into problems where implementing the stability control programme for the Scirocco showed up inaccuracies in their tyre model, and it felt like the team lost interest shortly afterward. (Given they started work before the third-generation Scirocco was launched and the car managed to finish its entire production cycle without being released in game.)

Heading slightly o/t but BeamNG.drive is great. It's amazing how good a first-generation Pessima is at offroading if you don't care what falls off it in the process...

The driving physics in BeamNG can be a bit interesting but my god it's brilliant. I've not tried it with my wheel yet but it's a fun solo experience, add in a few mods and you'll spend hours driving about.

Go-to for racing is Assetto
Go-to for recreating movie scenes, stunts, and just seeing 'what happens if I do X' is Beam

I dip back into LFS from time to time, still good fun. I think its still the most natural feeling game that I've found for sliding cars around.

Still no controller support for LFS? Just re-downloaded but I’m without wheel these days so it’s PS4 controller or nothing.

Get a cheap Logitech gamepad, they’re only about £20 for wired version, I played for years on LFS with one before I got my first wheel.

This thread (and a national covid-19 lockdown) prompted me to play LFS again. It really is brilliant for drifting, though the tyres don't last very long.
