Having just taken a muncie gearbox apart because the speedometer drive worm gear fixing broke. (Ac Cobra Chevy 350 matted to muncie four speed), I have several comments to make.
It is totally impossible to identify a muncie gearbox because GM didn't have the foggiest about the codes it was putting on the side of the gearboxes.
Any american who calls himself an expert, is unlikely to be, demonstrated by the number of times he will contradict himself with authority in usually his first sentence.
Any american overdrive will fit to any american engine until you actually try to do it.
And no matter what any american tells you laycock-de-normanville is an english make!
I find it totally amazing how many people I spoke to last week who talked with authority on the subject of gearboxes, and who I suspect have never taken one apart.
Thats better got that all off my chest.
