Insurance & current covid 19 guidelines
Discussion
We are classified as essential workers, I provide storage & ventilation systems for crop storage, if we don't keep going there will be problems in the food supply chain quite quickly. We've received guidelines about travelling to & from work, normally I pick up my employees & take them to & from work, the guidance says that they should where possible use their own transport. I asked them if they are insured for this, they are not....so what would be the legal standpoint on this, given the exceptional circumstances that we are currently experiencing?
I've told them to contact their respective insurance companies to see if it can be added easily, but as they've only recently passed their test, I'm not too sure about it.

Travelling to the same place of work everyday = commuting.
Travelling to different locations for work = business class 1.
In my experience doesn't add a great deal to the price of your insurance, including for those who have recently passed their test.
Motorcycle insurance though seem to load more than cars, particularly if commuting into city centres.

That's helpful. The ABI have released a statement on this here: https://www.abi.org.uk/news/news-articles/motor-an...
(Although says it only applies to private cars, so not motorcycles).

Direct Line (& some others) include Class 1 Business cover on their standard motor policies. I believe there are a few occupations where this is excluded though. Travelling to different locations for work = business class 1.

In the last couple of years, I've been asked on comparison websites if I usually use my car during the peak hours. This isn't defined but I think they mean 07:30 - 09:00 and 16:30 - 18:00 ish (??). These are when most accidents happen apparently.
This affected the premium more than standard SDP + commuting cover. Some insurers include commuting to one place of work as their minimum cover. Be very careful if you carry any products for work in your car (not tools, that is OK) It could be construed as 'business' use.

Indeed, although the massive drop in motor claims during this period should mean a bumper year for motor insurers. Not so good for travel insurers.
No doubt reflected in reduced premiums next year.....Stay safe everyone.
