Without due care ...

In December my wife was in Waitrose car park, she reversed out of a space next to a van & collided with a car, car driver was very shouty & loud , wife felt intimidated , other people became involved & told him to calm down. The crux of the matter for him was this had happened to him at the same car park a few months back & his Insurance would go up . He asked wife if she would go through a garage he knows , she said she would discuss it with me. This was near last Christmas & before she could tell me I had a heartattackin hospital & she did not tell me due to stress etc. The guy sent her a quote from a quote of £360, apparently it was a ding on the corner of his front bumper on a Audi A4 2010, , this was 3 weeks after the incident, in the end my daughter told me & I said go through your Insurance & do not pay him anything.
So thats what she did & apparently the claim was £275 .
Yesterday she recives a notice from the [police saying that on that date & on the road outside of Waitrose that she was driving her car without due cars & attention prior to a road traffic collision & drove off without giving detailss etc.
So my wife has all the texts & attachments (pics of his car) saying how he wants her to pay him £360- for the car repair & its obviously dated ...Oh & talking about dates , on the letter from the police it states the incident is yet to happen as its dated 21/12/2020.
It has been settled by the Insurance company & they actually said it was a vey minor incident that cost my wife 2 yrsNCB.
She is going to contact the Police soon but should we get a letterfrom her Insurance company showing she did report it & he did have her datils the next day....so why he is telling the Police this god knows.

Redact the "notice" and post it here. Police don't send you a notice of the above, you get a NIP and that will list offences. My money is on the t
t impersonating the police to try and upset you because you didn't accept his "gracious" offer of extortion.
Also, if two people have had the same accident with him there I'd argue he's the commonality here, and should be approaching the situation there differently.

Good point Speed king but I am sure she would have rememberd two incidents on the same day , same area time etc, although it was christmas shopping & then me in hospital etc...
I am certain its a real letter ,here is a copy, hope it shows up .

Plus the location information (referring to the road twice) is oddly written, and, as the OP says, the date is wrong.If this is a forgery, presumably the sender can get in a lot of bother for this?

The Police are responding to an allegation by another party. They will investigate whether it took place or not at the location quoted.I am certain its a real letter ,here is a copy, hope it shows up .

I take it your wife had a collision at Waitrose on 21/12/2019?
I had something similar a few years back but it was from my insurance company.
Luckily, an MOT passed just before the alleged incident and a photograph of the current odometer (with that day's newspaper ala a ransom demand), plus the fact that it was may fun car, and I could prove there was no way that car could have travelled to the location cited.
It was a massive ball-ache. I wish you the best.

Well looks like matey that she bumped into has taken umbrage and reported her to the police to accuse her of leaving the scene of the crime, and had to put a location of the public highway rather than the private car park.
I think he was looking for a Christmas payout, he nearly had it as well if my daughter had followed her Mum's advice & not tell me as it might stress me etc. Stress, she is up to her eys at the moment, 12 hour + shifts & could do without this nonsenseAnyway guys I'll let her read all your thoughts /experience etc & see what she decides .thank you!
Not sure if it makes any difference but there's no such thing as undue care and attention in the 1988 Act.
