Hello

I would like to enable remote access to 2x USB devices that I wish to plug into my home network (Huawei B525 Rotuer 1 x USB 4 x Ethernet)

Could anyone advise me on how to do this and what I need to buy ?

Network Switch with USB?

I know I could leave it plugged into my PC but want to keep it on 24/7

Thanks in advance

Those type of devices are out their though... but they seem rare, which tells me that they are probably ste.

Buy a proper NAS, which will give you a high level of reliability. I have a synology and it has never failed me when accessing remotely.

Thankyou

But a NAS is inappropriate to connect 2x USB devices to a network

You don't say what the USB devices are, but assuming that they are printers or disks you could use a Raspberry PI.

If you reveal what the devices are the I'm sure that someone will tell you the best way to achieve this.

software dongles

High value so I don't want to loose them when out and about

Sorry, I don't know of any way of sharing those.
Almost certainly the application will expect to see them attached to a local USB port.

Someone may be able to help or the supplier may have a different way of authenticating you

I've seen it done before plugged into a USB port on a router

Just that I have 2 x to connect and need the details on how to remote access

USB software dongles (I presume for licensing?) don't typically work like USB drives, so cannot be shared like a USB disk for example.

I have some software which uses a dongle, and the dongle cannot even be copied.

Have seen these used by customers who virtualised servers that used USB dongles: https://www.digi.com/products/networking/usb-conne...

You install a bit of software on the machine that needs access that gives a virtual USB port connected to the physical dongle.

Thanks - but it looks like expensive enterprise kit !

I was wondering if a USB hub plugged into my USB port on my B525 router would work ?

Alternatively a USB switch, plugged into an ethernet socket on my router ?

You want a USB over IP server. VirtualHere is probably your best bet unless you want to dig into configuring open source stuff. You can run the server on a Raspberry PI https://virtualhere.com

Thankyou, I'm thinking it is cheaper and easier just to buy a Silex e1305 ds-510 for £80
