Tyre fitters van told to return to base by Police

A friend of mine has just been pulled by the Police coming off the M5 near Bristol and told in no uncertain terms that tyre fitters are not essential workers. Surely that can’t be right..what if an NHS worker has a puncture? People still need safe tyres surely?

My tyre garages are remaining open AFAIK, so this is a little surprising but things are moving quickly.

One of my local tyre shops just put up that they're closing the shop but still allowing the vans to go out fully equipped as long as you don't approach them during the work.

Garages are allowed to by open. Tyre fitters would be classed as garage services so I would say mobile tyre fitters would be allowed.

At the moment, I’d say the Police have access to the same information as we do and as always there are some Police officers who are more
Intelligent than others.

Yeah, I'd imagine that tyre fitters are still essential workers, and the police didn't think it through then didn't back down. I'm not looking forward to taking my motorbike to my work, as no doubt they'll think I'm out for a leisure ride.

Times like this has made me realise having a spares car, tyre fitting equipment etc isn't as daft as I sometimes suspected it is.

Tell your friend to keep going out and fitting tyres, because he's clearly a key worker.

To be fair, you don't know where they are going. I'll be "joyriding" my motorbike all the way to a hospital lab.

Alone, but I'm sure that if I encounter any other bikes on the route, everyone will automatically assume they are my friends.

If I encounter the other staff member and friend that takes their bike then I might follow them too.

There seems to be a lot of "car friends" on the roads too. They must be friends because they're travelling on the same road.

Plenty of people need wheels changed even during these times.

Food delivery trucks, health workers, lorries and I've yet to see an ambulance driver changing his own wheel.

He should have said he was going to do his weekly shop.

You could think that plod are trying to bring the Country to a halt. Why would they want to do that?

What are they going to do about the possible 1/2 Million people in the UK that may have it?

As someone said some policeman are more intelligent thn others, others just like to stamp their authority because they can. They should be stopping anyone randomly. The tyre place is, in my opinion, essential as can keep an ambulance going if there is a need to replace a tire.

I work in the parts supply chain and at the moment garages are allowed to work and so are tyre fitters and parts suppliers. I know in the Southwest there has been parts vans pulled over as well but this is down to the officers checking and perhaps not having all the facts.

We have a letter in our vans to show the police if stopped which hopefully will be sufficient.

I can understand why they are doing this as people are just stupid sometimes.
