Bob is a key-worker and works for the NHS (100% remote at present), Bob has a son, Bill, who goes to nursery for 3 days a week. The nursery is shortly due to close its doors, meaning Bob has to make alternative childcare arrangements.

Bob is aware of others in the team who are currently 'working' remotely whilst also looking after kids, Bob doesn't feel he could do that for the 3 days as neither 'task' would be done effectively.

Therefore, having integrity, Bob has raised this concern up the chain, and further HR guidance is being sought. However early indications suggest Bob may only be paid for 3 days (which is fair, being paid for days worked. Why 3 days and not 2 - Bob can make up the 3rd day out of hours over the course of the week.)

Bob is less impressed that colleagues in the same situation are not being treated the same and having pay reduced.

Any thoughts on Bobs situation?

Either Bob should have kept his mouth shut or is about to become unpopular among some of his colleagues hehe

Is Bob single?

Bob is not single, let me introduce Belinda.

Belinda works full time over 3 days, the 2 remaining days Belinda looks after Bill.

Bob shouldn't judge other people's productivity through the lens of his own circumstances. That's his problem, not theirs.

If Bob is a key worker, there should still be childcare arrangements locally. Ask the nursery or ask if they know which one locally has been designated to take key workers' kids.
