So due to being stuck in the house for an extended period of time I've decided to try learning guitar. Something I've wanted to do for about 20 years but never got round to.

I've managed to get my hands on an acoustic Fender but... have no idea where to start.

Both my parents were very musical and my Dad is an accomplished player so I'm hoping I have some level of raw talent passed on to me!

What resources would you recommend to get started? Youtube has 1001 videos, but I'm after a recommendation on a good resource that is easy to follow. I don't mind paying either, it doesn't have to be Youtube.

If you were me... how would you go about getting started?

Fender play were offering their app for free to the first 100000 people to sign up. I was lucky to get that but haven't tried it yet.

Do you have absolutely no clue?

100% for Justin Guitar

I wish I had that resource available to me back in 1989 when I first started learning

Another good one on YT is "Art Of Guitar". He tends to focus on specific playing techniques (like trying not to leave any "space" between chord changes, and such like)

How, and what, you learn will be very specific to you. What I would advise is - after nailing the basics of hand positioning / pick angle / posture etc. etc. - get comfortable playing all the major and minor chords (with no sharps or flats i.e. no F# chords or Bb chords) in the "first position". In other words, major and minor chords at frets 1 & 2.

Also, persevere with bar chords like F major; it is worthwhile despite being a pain in the arse when first learning to play.

Fender one is good, I signed up the other day & going to give myself a wee refresher.

If you google 'Fender play 3 months free' there's an article that links you, easier than trying to find it on the fender site when I looked biggrin

Hey, whatzz up you guys

Yes, watched a lot of his vids, some good some not so. Sometimes miss what he's saying or it's not clear (in my head)

I have a couple of the Justin Guitar books which are helpful but a lot of the problem I have (and had when I went to a teacher) is that if you don't actually know the song it becomes trebbly difficult. And the fact that I'm a 66 year old with no musical ability whatsoever).

hehe

I've a lot of time for Marty.

A few years ago when he was subbed to GuitarJamz.com, he did a lesson on the "BB Box" and it was a bit of a game changer for me. Over the years, having noodled on the minor pentatonic for any blues progression, it opened up mixing minor AND major pentatonic in blues solos

If you don’t mind paying then absolutely take note of midenginecoupes recommendations. There are some world class guitarists there right at your fingertips.
