Isolation Happy Families..?
Discussion
I normally only spend this much time with my wife and daughter when we’re on holiday, so plenty of sun, plenty to do and plenty of beer so it’s a slightly different experience at the moment!
We’re also doing schoolwork et.lc from home which is harder work than we both thought. We’re doing pretty well and she hasn’t wanted to kill me yet ( I don’t think!!)
But we’ll see how it goes!

Tbf, aside a few irritable moments from our 12 Yr old I think we've done well - so far.
I've really enjoyed home schooling the kids and am suprised how well they've taken to it, primary school have been excellent (high school not so much)
I'm getting pretty good at fortnite too, came second tonight!

It’s been up and down here to be honest. In large part thanks to the mother in law (who usually lives on her own) coming to stay with us once lock down was announced. This has put an extra strain on our home life, especially as she comes with her yapping small dog...
In fairness she does help out with our 3 year old (her grandson) but I’m not sure this is a huge compensator. Normally it complicates things rather than simplifying them.

I work at home most of the time anyway, it's probably the biggest shock having my children not so much at home during the day but the fact I don't have to ferry them to parties every other night.
We thought it was a good time to get a puppy as we are going to be at home to house train etc...

It’s made me realise that I must be a boring b
d at the best of times. It honestly feels no different to normal except without the daily school runs and the pub once a week - and I didn’t particularly enjoy either of those anyway!
It helps if you live in a decent sized house in the countryside as you’re not on top of each other and you can just put the kids out in the garden while you sit there drinking beer. Must be pretty rubbish cooped up in an inner-city flat.
No arguments or fighting in our household....yet.

Similar here.

I also have an office in the garden. My wifes working from home so through the day it's just the 2 of us in there.
Nice and quiet compared to usual as my 3 staff are all at home.
I'm enjoying it so far. As long as my food deliveries keep coming I'll be able to last for a while.
Our evening walks are nice chatting to random people , at distance, as this seems to have brought a greater sense of community.

Ha! I know your pain my little jewel and I had our first spat of the lock down yesterday, evidently my saying that she did not have to find me work to do while I was watching kirsty alsopp in my dressing gown at 2 in the afternoon was not on. Also giving her rabbit ears while she was on a conference video chat with her team was unprofessional as well.
it is going great

My 11 yr old daughter and I started digging out the base for a new shed, we shifted a load of dirt and had a great time (until she hit her foot with the spade)
I even taught her the difference between a shovel and a spade!
We had a great time.
I'm a 38 year old guy and I don't know the difference, I just assumed they were interchangeable words. I even taught her the difference between a shovel and a spade!

18 yr old daughter proving difficult to live with.
To be fair she's just had everything thrown in the air - no A level exams - total uncertaincy about university, what grades she will get (her school has a stupid system for estimating grades based on SATS - I presume it helps them measure the 'value add' of the school but it means that their internal estimates are crap as opposed to the A/A* shes been getting in her work)
15yr old daughter just had a major strop because school is going ahead and holding mock exams next week. WTF? They say they are going to do them online, starting monday am. Sure thats going to work well.
OH is a Dr and stressed.
Alcohol consumption seems to be up slightly in the household.

Thank the world for Fortnite, Rocket League, Fifa and Minecraft. I'm a single Dad with no family support and tech has been invaluable in keeping my 11 and 9 yr old occupied while I deal with my day job (working from home, expecting any time to get interrupted when talking to customers). Familywise my Dad is in his late 80s, thankfully in a reasonably unaffected area so far (North Lincs). I'm f*cked if I get it bad as I've no fallback for the kids, and my late wifes lot are so mentally paranoid (not to mention hate me) that they won't step foot outside the house to help anybody but themselves (example "I'm self isolating but went to get the groceries as we were a bit short" - makes my brain hurt).
Happy days, no family to help/hindrance and we get boys days in. Pity they can't play with their mates outside but they can chat online and school are doing a decent job of sending them *some* work (neither are in an important year so not too fussed this side of Easter).
Amusingly did take them out for a green space football session, walking back home bumped into another family we know and shared a bit of convo while keeping distance, I was holding the football and got black looks from strangers as they'd assumed we'd played together.

Im either going to be divorced/murdered or on some register for being a sex pest.
Or all 3

We all had a group chat earlier and we were saying how lucky we are to have the ways and means to do stuff that years ago you wouldnt of had that ability.
Testing times all round and taking some getting used to, ive got 12 weeks of this and im struggling already, cars washed lawn mown.
No decorating to do either.
