TVR Tuscan Red Rose upgrade- what did it add
Discussion
I acquired my Tuscan three years ago. Just checking out the original invoice, the car was supplied by James Agger Autosport in March 2001, with “ Red Rose upgrade with TVR Power” included as an optional extra at £4200. The invoice describes it as “TVR Tuscan 4000cc Red Rose Engine”
Could any of you guys tell me what the upgrade involved, and does it bring the car to S mechanical Spec. It presents as a standard Mk1 Tuscan externally

£4200 (inc vat) matches the original red rose spec.

When TVR launched the Tuscan, or rather the time they launched it just before it became available, Peter Wheeler decided to offer a performance pack, so the Tuscan Red Rose became an option - it was originally shown at the Motorshow with a Lancashire Red Rose sticker but nothing came of that.
The original Red Rose spec was:
- 18"wheels
- Uprated suspension (adjustable to a limited extent)
- Uprated brakes - bigger disks and cross drilled - you can spot them by the fact they have seperate bells and are bolted on to the bells
- Engine mods giving an extra 40bhp (390 instead of the standard 4.0 360 - the 3.6 engine came a bit later on)
This little lot cost £4,200 including VAT according to my invoice
The Red Rose spec did NOT include air con, boot coloured carpet, DAB radio or colour coded steering wheel - these were the options added to the Red Rose spec to create the Tuscan S (along with the appropriately named spoilers)

I have the bill of sale with my red rose, well its a photocopy of it. The document is dated 9th of January 2001. It states the following
The price of the car was £33627
Full hide trim £1685
Hydratrak diff £361
Red rose conversion £3574
D.A.B tuner £408
Gold badges £46
Overmats £59
Gas discharge Headlamps £497
Oh and it has aircon scribbled on the sheet but no price
Total £41,080
Vat £7189
Total £48,270
I always though the hydratrak diff and the gas discharge headlamps were in the price of the red rose conversion
