Rural car decision

My Suzuki Grand Vitara got written off in Monday.
It was my go anywhere reliable stay dirty car.

To replace it... my next car will do far less miles (company vehicle incoming) but it will need to satay family outings and Devon country lanes/mud and stuff.

So...
Another Grand Vitara 1.9TD - practical, tough and can not care about it cosmetically
Or
Ford Kuga (2010) 2.0TDi much better looking, more modern/toys and a lovely glass roof...

Well, our Skoda Fabia (2013 1.2Tsi) on Vredestein Quatrac 5 tyres, copes with similar conditions in North Wales. Plenty of room for four adults, less than 4 metres in length. If you want new, and slightly bigger, go for a Skoda Scala (again on all-season tyres). I assume you do not go on fields, and most cars’ ground clearances cope with grass in the middle of lanes.

What are the locals driving? In the country, most drive FWD hatchbacks, and survive. Farmers tend to have off-roaders, such as Isuzus but then they do go properly off-road.

Neither. Both are unnecessarily too big on the outside.
If I had to choose, it would be the Suzuki.

Can’t you just get a company car with four wheel drive? I can’t see the logic in all the extra costs and hassle to rattle around in a ten year old Kuga at the weekend.

Four wheel drive ups the emissions and BIK becomes untenable. I had an Outlander PHEV 5 years ago when the BIK was just 5% for hybrids v 29% for the diesel but they’ve gone right up now.

My car will be for evenings and weekends.
Single lane
Muddy lane
Fields
Motorway
Towns
Everything apart from rivers and green landing.
I’m used to the hedges...

To be honest if you have a firm shortlist of two I’d just test the two and decide which you like best. The ford will probably be nicer in every way.
