Strange sound from my car

well i have had my griffith for a few days now, and a strange sound has started.
it sounds like a pumping so (like a tape rewinding) and it's come from down the passangers footwell area

anyone have any idea's it still runs fine just the noise is p*ssing me off now

Check that the courtesy light switch in the sill is properly depressed when the door closes. The rubber pad on the inner surface of the door may be missing or damaged. If its not depressed enough the central locking mechanism will shuttle back and forth.

Have you pulled the carpet back & examined the battery/relay/fuse area for clues?

Do you have a motorised flap on the heater? I seem to remember reports that the potentiometer controlling this can come adrift causing the motor to run continuously.

well it's not the centrel locking, and it makes the noise even when the fuel pump isn't priming. will have a pull bad of the carpets to night and see what that shows up

The battery box area is revealed by pulling the carpet section back from the top, i.e. the vertical section where it goes up under the dash. Good luck.

I think GreenV8S is on the right track here. The Griff has a motorised servo-controlled heater valve down there, and it can go of it's trolley (tech term of course).

Alternatively the heater blowere motor lurks down there in later cars - you don't want to go there!

Yep mine does this from time to time. Basically seems like you set the heater to a certain temparature which should move the "mixer flap", but the flap can't quite settle and decide where you want it. I usually find that moving the heater knob a tad settles it down.

Does it have power steering?

If so, is the noise constant?

Mine has always made a noise from the passenger foot well, that I have described as swishing, but 'tape rewinding' could be the same.

Have not discovered what it is, but have never had a problem, so accept it as one of those 'it's a TVR, so is acceptable'.

Knowing TVR and the fact that every Griff seems to have a totally different battery and fuse box configuration you cannot rule out 100% the fact that there may well be a cassette player being used in some capacity down there and your diagnosis could be spot on.

well it is deffo to do with the heating have had a twidel with the knobs and it does go for a bit but slow lerks bad. id there away to solve this?
