Looking for some more advice about a minor issue I noticed last week when washing my Vantage - lockdown therapy!

The car is a 2015 Coupe.

I wetted the whole car with a hose and washed it in sections, working top down with a noodle mitt and then rinsing each section with the hose. I was drying the car with microfibre towels, decided to open the fuel filler to dry the underside of the lid and saw that the filler bowl was full of water, well above the level of the small cylindrical black rubber moulding with moulded holes next to the filler neck that I assume is the drain. I watched for a while but the water level didn't seem to be dropping, so I mopped it out with a towel.

Has anyone any experience of the fuel filler drain system on a Vantage? Are they prone to blockage and, if they are, what's the best way to rod them out so the filler bowl is draining freely? I assume that there must be a pipe or tube running down from the bowl to dump rain water or fuel spillages onto the road somewhere under the car by the LH rear wheel.

I don't want to start trying to remove the rubber moulding or poking bits of wire down it or the drain pipe/tube until I know what I should be doing.

There’s a rubber hose that comes from the overflow and is clipped to the rear of the rear wheel arch liner.

Standard rubber tube, nothing complicated or likely to break anything.

If you have time (who doesn’t these days...) pop the liner off and take the hose out and give it a good blow through.

Alternatively, poke a chopstick down and also from the bottom. The blockage should be near the top/bottom.

You could also try giving it a couple of blasts from a foot pump, with one of those air bed inflator nozzles pushed in.

Thanks all. Once I knew there wasn't any clever one-way valves or anything in the line I actually used a piece of garden strimmer cord that I happened to have that was a dead fit in the small round holes in the top of the little moulding in the filler bowl. Rodded all three out to the point where the cord could be seen coming out of the tube behind the rear wheel, then cleaned out the side slots in the moulding with a bent paper-clip. Poured a little water into the bowl and it flowed straight out. Job Done. Weirdly, nothing fell out of the tube that might have been blocking it.
