What happens with Airmail...

...now that most aircraft are grounded and parked up how does airmail get processed. I ask because being on lockdown in NZ we've been waiting for mail that was sent over 3 weeks ago (actually almost 4 weeks). I know that BA had the contract for airmail but they ceased operations to NZ some years ago and now Air New Zealand have also ceased direct operations to UK (not because of the Covid 19 problems but a financial decision made earlier this year) so I guess it's reliant on other carriers and is sitting in some warehouse somewhere waiting for a flight - just like us really!
Not important in the scheme of things but was just musing in a moment of utter boredom.

I just had a look on Flightradar (something I rarely do), how empty are our skys??
About 2 weeks ago I sent a parcel air mail to the UK (from USA). Normally it would arrive in about 5, maybe 7 days however it just turned up in Langley yesterday. I guess it'll be delivered in the next couple of days.
I also received a DHL courier from the UK that took a couple of extra days to arrive, but still turned up.
What's the normal number of days for mail to NZ?

Quieter than usual, is the answer, but it remains surprising how many commercial transatlantic flights continue with Tap, Alitalia (yes!), Virgin, Aer Lingus, United, Delta, TransAt, Air Canada, etc.
Saw a BA plane flying LHR to BOH, only, ready to be parked alongside all the others already at BOH!
LGW, as many will now know, has zero flights in / out now.

Not quite zero, but very few. No EasyJet or BA, none of the China routes, no Cathay Pacific... not much at all.
