I've been racking my brains trying to find a decent car for covering a lot of miles but could do with some input.

I do about 2,000 miles a month, the chunk of that is a 250 mile roundtrip every weekend and circa 150 miles during the week commuting.

I had a 330Ci when I started doing this amount of driving but the fuel costs were starting to get a bit outrageous and being 23 the insurance shot up a lot once I changed my address from uni to my home in London and declaring that the car would be parked in Coventry during the week.

In terms of what I need, practicality isn't important, I'm open to anything from estates to coupes. Really the only criteria are; fun to drive, fairly refined, decent fuel economy on a motorway run, cruise control and good reliability.

I think a hot hatch type thing might be a good compromise, potentially something like a MK5 Golf? I can't have a diesel due to Ulez so must be a petrol.

Budget would be circa 6k so potentially would be limiting myself to manual cars as auto's of that era are a bit slow and I'm not sure how reliable a 10-15 year old DSG box is going to be. I've come across Giulietta Cloverleafs too which seem like a good idea on paper, but not sure about reliability.

Any suggestions?

I'd be buying this they're swift comfortable the V6 is pretty much bulletproof (I still miss mine) the Orthopedic seats are a great bonus when it comes to big miles:

The gearboxes are again bombproof but they do need fluid & filter changes every 40k.
