Contactless limit increase to £45

Been using a contactless card for years with £100 limit when I am abroad, so about time the UK raise the limit too.

If they raise the limit for contactless even more, will we see new rules to state the bank isn't liable for any loss should the card be stolen?

In my experience (somewhat annoyingly) it's the same as the contactless limit at supermarkets.

If anything I've seen the opposite. £30 limit with Apple Pay whilst Google Pay allows you well over this provided you unlock the device.

It depends on the individual retailer in question. I've put several hundred on my phone before via apple pay, but yes, some places do cap, but its mostly uncapped from what I've found, I rarely take a card out.

My experience is it is a combination of retailer and card company that determines the limit.

Using either Apple or Google Pay in Lidl, the limit is £30 if you use Amex but there is no limit (or not one I have found) for VISA or MasterCard.

And then you have the s at Tesco who set a £30 limit to try to force you to use their payment app which has no limit.

I paid for over £90 of groceries at Sainsbury’s the other day using Apple Watch. Likewise I can pay large amounts at Waitrose. In my experience it’s only Tesco that insist on applying a £30 limit.

One of my brothers paid for his last car* using ApplePay, guess it depends on the retailer
