Private buying and selling - now is morally the wrong time?

Is anyone like me sitting on a car (or two) that they had hoped to sell in order to get something else for the summer - or perhaps something else which might need a bit of work to help pass the lock-down time constructively?
I'd really like to sell or swap one car which is a convertible now while spring is in the air so that I can find another of a different make and model but clearly as this is a weekend car I cannot justify this as essential. From what I can see on PH, AT, eB etc there is no decline in the number of cars coming up for sale - so is this that other people are ignoring the rules or am I being ridiculously cautious?
Missed what looked like exactly what i was looking for because Mrs Torx refused to drive me down there with the whole family in the car, which I think was fair enough as it was about an hour away - yet the car did sell pretty quick so clearly others are not acting like us.
Is this a legitimate dilemma? I mean I am not in the NHS or a key worker - but maybe my bright yellow convertible is exactly what a key worker needs to get to work?

Well if it wasn't for the fact that classifieds are still teaming with new listings everyday I wouldn't have asked - and it's not just cars, anything that would require face-to-face collection or cash etc - you'd think if the answer was so obvious classified sites and FB marketplace for example would be empty if not temporarily suspended. torx_whisperer said:

Yes indeed.I have a saved search on PH for a specific vehicle and almost every day a few new ones come up.
Curiously they are almost all in the Home Counties and London.
It is curious why in these times people go against government ruling.
On the flip side, there will be many many people out there that are now out of work and really struggling and the only way to keep themselves afloat would be trying to sell whatever assets they have. So maybe going out and buying things is, in actual fact, providing an essential service? (Maybe just get whatever it is delivered though)

We were thinking of selling my wife's A4 convertible before summer if it wasn't for Covid 19 but will have to sit tight for now.
I made an offer on a family members E36 328i M Sport Tourer before all this kicked off but now can't go and see them to haggle/view/chat/butter them up.
They are self employed so may be desperate to sell at the end of the lock down :-) (joke!)

Many cars are purchased sight unseen and this may be a tune when the seller really needs the cash to stay afloat.
Will the purchase price be lower that normal? Yes but it is always a choice for the seller.

A lot of people seem to be misunderstanding 'essential travel' as being applicable to a decision on whether a business activity is essential. It's not applicable... if you can't work from home, and your sector is not in enforced shutdown, the government has been clear that this can and should continue, IF the employer can provide their services whilst achieving social distancing.
If you're prepared to buy/sell a car online/on the basis of p/calls and photos, videos etc, and then get it delivered by a transport company, you're operating entirely within government guidelines. The transport company can't operate from home, and should be able to protect their staff by social distancing.
None of the above needs to be a moral challenge; you'd be operating within guidelines and supporting those that are able to continue working. However, driving to see a car for sale wouldn't follow government guidance. I suppose if your perfect car was round the corner and you could run past it as part of your exercise, whilst maintaining your social distance, you might technically be compliant...but I think it would/should logically fall outwith the 'essential' activities of individuals.

I have actually just purchased a car on Friday. The seller is keeping the car until the lockdown is over.This is one option or delivery would be another but I would be of the opinion that the delivery driver and others are put at risk by this.
I cannot drive the car now and really was taking advantage of the reduced prices so the delay on delivery is no issue.
I have my eye on a car that's for sale from a private seller. Tempted to make an offer with the understanding that it'll be kept at their's until this is all over. Issues are that i'd not want it driven by anyone, i'd want decent pics, and proof such as a pic of the V5 that it's their's to sell.
Alternative would be to ask them to drive it here and have them park it up and chuck me the keys, and them trust that i'd fill in the V5 and post it.
All seems a bit silly and not worth it given the current climate.
However, the guy may be in a tight spot and desperate for the money

I’m trying to sell a car of mine at the moment and am quite keen to get rid of it right now so I’m offering it at a much lower price in the hope that someone will buy it unseen and get a transporter to pick it up. If I still have it when this lockdown is over though I plan on putting the price back up. It’s a buyer’s market right now if you’re willing to take a risk.
I too have had many conversations with ‘potential buyers’ who obviously have nothing better to do than play fantasy car buying. Very annoying.
