OK. So you can have a Cadillac XLR for $75,000 or a Corvette Z06 for $65,000. Tough decision!

"Ooh! Kenneth! The gentleman's looking for a Corvette with wood trim, a less powerful engine, a 5-speed auto and softer suspension. Ooh! Nice car for the wife, Sir? Ooh! Suits you."

2004 sales of XLR? Just 3,600.

And let's not forget: 0-60 in first... and in 3.7 seconds.

And for $65,800 too: even if that translates to £60K, that's still pretty good value considering it will be quicker than more or less everything!!

This must be the car of choice for personal import. 500 bhp US car for the price of the 400 bhp Euro car.

Tuesday, 14 June 2005

38000 British Pound = 65322.00000 US Dollar

1 British Pound = 1.71900 US Dollar
1 US Dollar = 0.58173 British Pound

Soooo, £38K for the car plus £500 shipping = £38500

Duty at 10% = £3850 + VAT at 17.5% = £7411

SVA say £1500

Total is less than £52,000 on the road price in the UK!

Can't remember what the XLR production rate is, from our recent tour of Bowling Green, but suffice to say it is set up as a much smaller line, much of the car is hand assembled, and the production line is to one side of the, much larger and more heavily automated, Corvette line, is not manned 24/7, in fact I think they finish about 4 every day.

To us lot who want grunt grunt and more grunt then clearly it's a non choice. To those people out there who prize exclusivity, a bit more refinement and a classier wood trimmed cockpit (oh and don't forget, an electric hardtop - which I bet was the most costly element of development...) and don't want such performance focus - they'll choose the XLR.

4 cars a day sounds like the accountant's nightmare giving an annualised production total of less than 1,500 cars. Some say GM always intended the XLR to be an exclusive car but I doubt they intended it to be THAT exclusive. Maybe the line should be switched over to meet demand for the new Z06!

Don't forget that GM's claim for the C5 Z06 was 0-60 in 3.8 seconds which never happened. LOL. The 7 litre should have a better chance of doing what they claim on the tin.

Seems they're having a raffle for a Z06 at Corvette Museum.

500 tickets at $500 each. Tempting.

Whoops....sold out.

C6 tickets for $250 with 500 tickets only still available.

Or we order a Z06 and sell 5 tickets on this forum at £12,000 each. Winner decided by throw of dice gets the car, insures it for all 5 participants to drive and deals with any maintenance for 3 years. It should have a 3 year warranty. The 4 "losers" each have the opportunity to use the car for 3 summer months (i.e. between April and September) and one winter month during those 3 years. At the end of the 3 years the car is sold and the proceeds, plus any unspent balance of the £60k split equally between the 5 participants.

Losers lend the winner their car (fully insured and maintained) in exchange for the Z06 while they are using it.

Entry requirements,
1. Own a C6/C5/ZR1 Corvette in full working order.
2. £12,000 folding cash money.
3. Over 25 with insurable driving record.
4. Safe garaged parking.
5. No modification, racing, trials etc.
6. Maintenance/repairs by authorised main dealer only.
7. Participant pays any excess on insurance claim.
8. If any loser crashes the car in a single vehicle accident he/she pays to get it fixed (no insurance claim) or loses all further participation rights, including share of cash on sale.
9. If the car is vandalised while held by a loser the loser either pays to get it fixed or loses all further right to use the car, but receives share of cash on sale.
10. Winner has first call on choosing months. No participant can use the car for the same month in more than one year unless all others agree. Multiple bookings for any month resolved by throw of dice.
11. Throw of dice means simultaneous throw of three dice and highest aggregate score wins. Winners throw again in the event of a tie.

How about we buy 4 and raffle 2 at £500 per ticket with only 200 tickets. That way we make about £50,000 per car which means we each get a car for free!

Well don't believe in God as he'll want one before he ever gives one to you. So that's one less instantly. Mind you, I heard he preferred the C5.
